Put the lock replacement plug in 4 years ago from Original Precision. I also added a taller front sight as this was an early model and it shot high with everything. This gun just shoots and I think a large part of it is: it fits my hand and the recoil impulse is different than with an N frame. My SECOND FAVORITE 44 IS: I liked my 4.2" so well I tried the 2.75" and now I have a dilemma, which goes hiking and which stays home? I have to say after 57 years of shooting S&W of numerous shapes and calibers I like the L Frames the best. My grail gun is a L Frame 357 Mountain gun. I'll find one someday.

Glad you posted this. I'm breaking in a new 4.25" Model 69 and it is definitely a better shooter for me than an N frame 44. Mine also shoots high so I'll be adding a taller front sight soon, maybe .305". I'll probably give Fermin a call.

Big proponent of the M69s. Grabbed one when the first came out (1st Qtr of 2014 IIRC) and never looked back. I have a pair and a spare of both barrel lengths. I quit counting after 10,000 rnds thru the longer barreled guns and almost 9,000 thru the short ones. My favorite .44 mag double action platform. Been shooting the 2.75" almost exclusively for the past 3 or 4 years. . . My most used load(s) are: 265gr SWCGC (429244 Lyman Thomson) 17.5gr A2400, seated deep and crimped over the front drive band. 240gr SWCBB commercial cast, 6.8gr HP38, seated deep and crimped over the front drive band. 240gr SWCBB commercial cast PCed, 5.0gr WST (Win Super Target), deep seated and crimped over front dr band. my reasonably priced source of the 265gr dried up so I have substituted commercial coated 240gr SWCBBs deep seated and crimped over the front drive band I was curious, so I bought some Buffalo Bore and Underwood 305gr Cast. Buffalo Bore, 305 LBT LFN HC rated 1,325 fps Underwood, 305 LFNGC Plated (HiTech?) rated 1,325 fps LabRadar muzzle velocity at 33 deg F S&W M69 2.75" ===> BB 1,195 fps ===> Under 1,147fps S&W M69 4.25" ===> BB 1,276 fps ===> Under 1,248 fps Ruger SRH 7.5" ===> BB 1,395 fps ===> Under 1,315 fps So, pick a load the serves your needs and enjoy. Paul, your previous thread on the model 69 influenced me in getting one for myself. Mind telling us about the front sight on the 4" gun?

I also like my 4.2" S&W M69. I sent mine to Clements as the throats were well under .429". A .428" Pin would fit, but a .429" would not even start.
Clements opened all five up to .430" and I used a 400 Grit Hone to polish them to .4305".
Cast bullets work great now...
You have two really nice guns there...

I'm not sure I can pick an absolute favorite; but I am also a model 69 fan. Bought my 4.25" after reading Paul105's posts and have been very pleased with it.

I, like Paul am gravitating to the short barrel due to ease of carry in the rosebrush. I shoot the 4" a bit better, and I love both. No griz out here but wolves and black bear. I carry a 225gr SWCGC RCBS mold bullet that has been PC'ed. They're running at 1,100fps out of the 4 inch. Great accuracy and easy to load one load for each revolver.

The only double action gun I own is this old 4 screw 29 no dash.

Probably one of these two excluding single actions.

I nabbed a 4" 1st. Then the snubby bug bit. I swapped it for the shorty. My bad. I am liking the snub version but I should not have sold the 4". Something to fix in the near future. Mine got Hi-Viz F/O fronts. The taller thinner Dawson will be considered for the next one. I am ok with the factory grips. The L frame size works better for my medium sized hands. I have tried the BB 305gr load too. Not as bad as I thought. I'd handload it to stay subsonic myself or try the Federal CastCore loading which is 100-150fps slower than the BB.. A very handy handgun for sure !
