It’s a shame only one lives here but it’s a nice one. Somebody ordered this one from Bowen and wanted a black powder chamfer on the cylinder. Unbeknownst to them, that means flutes too. Didn’t want a fluted cylinder so he dumped the project. I helped Hamilton out by taking it off his hands for a nice price. Savings went to Rob R for the grips…

Those L-Frames are really nice. I think if they'd been out when I was shooting the 44 Mag, I'd have had one or two, like the 4" and 3".
I've had a few N-Frames and look at them as the epitome of "DA art," but they were "large" for me. Super-Blackhawks, OM and NM, plus a few Bisleys were my only 44 Mag handguns though. I shot a lot of rompin'-stompin' loads out of them, but eventually settled on ten grins of Unique and a 429421. To me, the 44 Mag was a surrogate for the 44 Specials Id rather had, so the heaviest loads, and therefor the mass and bulk were neither desirable, nor necessary. As soon as I laid my hands on a few smaller 44 Specials, I let the mags go.
I think I'd still own a 44 MAG today, if those new L-Frames had been out when I made the complete switch.

I own a lot of .44 Magnums, but this 4" 629 is one of my favorites. I gave it a trigger job and added Ahrends grips. It fits me well, points beautifully, and shoots really tight. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Chasing perfection five shots at a time"

People wanting mods done without knowledge of what the mod means or accomplishes, they just want the mod to be able to say they have it. Unintelligent shooters is one of the main reasons I stopped doing practical shotgun mods, for people I didn’t know. I also had a customer decide he no longer wanted the gun after being told what a modification meant, I replaced his gun with a new stock gun and had his sold 2 days later and still made money………some people!!!! Still a couple SA 44 mags here by Clements and Stroh but my favorite was the 44 mag bisley I sent back to John Gallagher the fall before died. He used it to take his last deer with thanks to a couple of friends who took him out. It’s now a Gallagher family heirloom but that doesn’t stop it from being my favorite 44 mag of all time.

My favorite 44 mags are both single actions. One is a long cylinder bisley that was one of if not the last gun John Gallagher worked on and the other is a parts gun TLA #5 that Alan Harton built for me. They both see regular use.

Put the lock replacement plug in 4 years ago from Original Precision. I also added a taller front sight as this was an early model and it shot high with everything. This gun just shoots and I think a large part of it is: it fits my hand and the recoil impulse is different than with an N frame. My SECOND FAVORITE 44 IS: I liked my 4.2" so well I tried the 2.75" and now I have a dilemma, which goes hiking and which stays home? I have to say after 57 years of shooting S&W of numerous shapes and calibers I like the L Frames the best. My grail gun is a L Frame 357 Mountain gun. I'll find one someday. I’m pretty sure you just need a second holster…

I only own one DA 44 magnum so by far it's my favorite other than all my SA 44s.

I don't own a 44mag anymore, but plan on another OM Blackhawk 5-1/2". Not sure which Smith I'll have do the work.

"I was curious, so I bought some Buffalo Bore and Underwood 305gr Cast.
Buffalo Bore, 305 LBT LFN HC rated 1,325 fps Underwood, 305 LFNGC Plated (HiTech?) rated 1,325 fps LabRadar muzzle velocity at 33 deg F
S&W M69 2.75" ===> BB 1,195 fps ===> Under 1,147fps S&W M69 4.25" ===> BB 1,276 fps ===> Under 1,248 fps Ruger SRH 7.5" ===> BB 1,395 fps ===> Under 1,315 fps
hey, a 305gr lbt at 1248 from a 4" trail gun - "ain't" nothin' to sneeze at!!

2 Dogs if I wore two of those Model 69s at the same time my pants would fall off. Got that old man's dilemma of "no buttitis" ! Exhibit A: The 2.75" version is so handy, 44 Mag power with a Kframe gripframe. A "double serious" type Model 19.

In addition, I've had a couple of surgeries that make a holster/gunbelt very uncomfortable, so I just drop the 2.75" in the back pocket of my Carharts. Never even notice it's there. Not as active as I used to be (or as some others on here are), so I can get away with it for an hour or two. Plus, I just really enjoy shooting the short gun. Paul

Bought this 5 screw 4" gun for the Persinger carved ivory and had planned on selling the gun, but it is so darn nice I can't bring myself to get rid of it.
