Weird that the 500we is still being offered on their website! Expensive paperweight….

Can someone take belt, case head dimensions and post them, please. Or tell me where I can find them, I’m curious. Trapr Yes^ I'm sure I can make it. But theres not 1 single cartridge diagram or spec sheet anywhere. I'm sure its reeeeeally close to jrh case spec, but +belt and -rim. If jrh would fit, you could turn the rims down and use moon clips

I don't have a dog in the hunt. If I did, if there is a FA forum, owners club, etc.. How many 500WE were made ? Bet enough were made to find 20 or so willing to split a brass order. On this one forum, you can find that many to buy a mold. A group brass buy - to overcome the 10,000 piece minimum threshold, is a novel idea. I'm thinking there may be additional manufacturer concerns though. I've been watching Starline's website (for .480 brass availability) for about 10 months now, & have seen very few changes in caliber availability. 475 was recently available so I assumed 480 was. Got 100 starline 475 from graf's a few weeks ago. 67 bucks

I am reasonably sure FA would give you the specs for the 500WE if someone would make the brass for you. I am also pretty sure for a completely unique case such as this it would take a lot more than 10K of brass to make the run and some hefty tooling charges upfront to get the ball rolling.
I am sure FA has had this conversation with Starline, Hornady, Jamison, and anyone else who makes brass to keep the cartridge going. Its a dandy of a cartridge, I have shot one a fair bit and would love to own one although I wouldn't buy one without knowing I could get 500+ cases for it before I even thought of opening my wallet for one.

Stupid design from the get go and now the shooters and the maker are paying the price.
I'd love a short little .50 from FA.

Without getting into the politics… my understanding is the belt is ahead of the ratchet, and perhaps the dimensions of the gun, won’t allow a rim on a 50 caliber, without cutting into the ratchet area…
I ran into this, in my desire for a 56-50 revolver… as a companion to a spencer rifle… the case that works in the spencer, won’t work in a revolver…

I have one 500 WE now. And if I luck into a short barreled 500WE I'll pick it up as I have enough brass to last me. I like the cartridge because there's more availability of bullets with the popularity of the 500 S&W relative to the 500 Linebaugh. (But I really like my Linebaugh....)

RCC brass seems to have some available for ordering,…..I just checked. Still no case specs though.

How about working over a 500 Linebaugh case? Run it into a 50AE die to get the mouth smaller. Next a trip into a 500 WE sizer. Would this size the body down and push a belt down towards the base. Finish up turning the belt and rim in a lathe...?

Yep, and yet others managed to make it work without doing that. (the reasoning for the belt)

It's just a standard magnum case cut under 1.4. Turn necks and anneal. Nothing proprietary about that. A 500-458wm special!
