How many have seen the new Hodgdon Annual Reloading manual that hit the shelves not to long ago? so I picked up a copy a while back & I haven't been able to put it down, lots of new powders & pressures added to some of the powders that some of us are using that we really didn't know about, at least I didn't know about the pressures until I got this new manual, maybe I'm just late to the party. One of the surprises I noticed right away was the absence of Bullseye, Unique, 2400 & Power Pistol, that was a real shocker, I thought they would be in there somewhere, but not I didn't see them. And maybe it's just because I'm old school but there were some new powders I'd never even heard of that showed great promise for six gunners with high velocity & low pressures in many different calibers. Again, maybe I'm just late to the party & some of you already know about many of these powders, I did not! If you haven't seen this new Annual Manual you might try snagging a copy if there's still one on the book shelves somewhere or maybe order a copy, I love it. One of the new powders is 11FS, never heard of it, but it is one of the powders mentioned in several different calibers & runs high velocity & low pressures many times, again, maybe I'm just late getting here. Also look at some of these velocities & then the pressures of the great 327 round mentioned in this new manual. Dick

Longshot, 244, 572, Silhouette, Power Pistol, CFE Pistol and a few others are impressive for some revolver cartridges.
For decades I've used Unique and 2400 for nearly everything. I'm slowly learning to move into more modern powders.

I've used very little Lil' Gun in revolvers. But I've burned a lot in a 22 Hornet. It's a magic powder in that tiny case.

Hodgdon manual will have Hodgdon, Winchester, Accurate, IMR, and Winchester powders.
It won't have Alliant powders like Unique, Bullseye, Power Pistol, 2400.
I wish Alliant would publish more data.

I too, was very happy with the manual. However, I had preordered from Hodgdon and at the same time got the discontinued Western Powder Manual for $5 on clearance. Free shipping too!

I was very happy to see some pressure data for Longshot because I am using it for a lot of calibers. Some really interesting velocity/pressure data in this manual for sure.

The velocities posted for the 41 mag, I’d be happy achieving with my .414. I agree there is some head scratching going on, with the data.

Trapr They use a long pressure test barrel instead of real guns THAT TURNS ME OFF AND DOES NOT TELL ME WHAT A LOAD MAY DO IN A REVOLVER. QUESTION: IS PRESSURE THE SAME IN A REVOLVER AS IN A CLOSED BARREL?

Dick I use a lot of Longshot these days too. After handloading for 40+ years, it sits right along side Unique and 2400. Even in such classics as the 44 Special, it nearly mimics 2400 with far less powder. In these times when supplies are hard to come by, it matters...

Just a thought here, but wasn't Lil Gun denounced for flame cutting and forcing cone erosion? I "think" that is what I remember but it has been a while. I use it in my 300 Blackout AR (where it SHINES!) but before I put it in my favorite revolvers, I would want to check that out further. VERY impressive data! but like was mentioned, using a 10 inch test barrel instead of a real firearm kinda gives skewed data. Now Lil Gun in something like the 10mm Auto cartridge in a semi-automatic, I'd be all over that.

Learned it by posting on here about how great it shot in a 454 and got berated for it.

I have some Lil'Gun here, nabbed for the 350Legend. For revolvers, I believe heat is the problem. There are people here who successfully use it in hunting revolvers. They shoot it low volume, they shoot it slow. They , mostly I think, are using it with heavy for caliber bullets. It is not for your IDPA or such, gun. True, this manual does not show Alliant powders. Alliants Power Pro 300-mp promises a bit more velo than Lil'Gun but i do not have a handle on it's pressure when doing so.

As always,,,, having several manuals is the key to building top quality handloads. New manuals,, with new data & components is always a plus. I've already got my copy of the new Hodgdon manual,, and admit,, I haven't had the time to sit & study it much. Too much going on these last few weeks,, and for at least another week & half. But my "me" time is coming,, and I too will be studying the newest manual.
Remember; "An education is something that can't be stolen from you,, but it's a crime to not share it!"
