Here are some pics of the grips Roy did for me..... I've been so very fortunate. Rob R or others may correct me but I believe I began working on projects with Roy after he had begun making grips again after a pretty serious bout with arthritis. I never thought I'd have that chance as the word was that he was at the time done with making grips. Like I said so very fortunate. Bighorn... Muskox...at the time he said the prettiest he had done. Ivory...before it was too late... Bighorn on the blue gun by Roy and the Bighorn on the SS gun By Rob R. These may have been the last set of big horn grips he did. He told me it was his last piece but I can't be sure of that. Rare Desert Bighorn from Roy.. Some stags Roy did that I found along with the grip frame they were fitted to on ebay. David Clements has them now building an OM octagonal barreled .45 Colt bisley on a .44 flat top. Should be special... Dall sheep on a Clements .44sp.

While I (sadly) do not own any of his grips,, I have handled some & admired them all. Truly a craftsman,,, !
Add in the fact that so many spoke highly of him as a person,, shows so much about him.
May he RIP,,, and his family receive the comforts only God can give. They have my prayers.

I don't think I have ever enjoyed conversations with an artist as much as I did with Roy. I have every one of his hand typed letters and notes and even cards he sent over the years. The grips he made are wonderful but secondary to the visits and conversations. His family is in my prayers as they navigate these new and uncharted waters of life. Here's a S&W 629 he did back in 2008 - dropped the gun off in person about a year and a half earlier which was the first time we met. French walnut.
A Uberti 44-40 that was one of his personal guns. Elephant ivory A S&W 60 with Claro - he made a total of 3 of this style to prevent snagging on clothing. This one was featured in a 1990 Nov/Dec American Handgunner article by Cameron Hopkins. An old model Blackhawk. I gave Roy the chunk of french walnut and he did this to it. He was 87.

The consummate Master of making grips look and feel "like they grew there." A true artist in Ivory and wood. He will be sorely missed, but his influence will live, as long as there are grips being fitted and carved... As he lays his tools aside, may he Rest In Peace.

you guys posting pictures have me truly drooling... I'd have liked to had a set of grips from him... if fact I tried looking for some on Gun Broker a couple weeks ago... nothing turned up on my search... a testament to the quality... likely anyone lucky enough to have a set, keeps them...
BTW... as incredible as they all are... that concealed hammer S&W, is totally out of this world... do you have more pictures of that one???

This first one is the side shown in the 1990 article - you may be able to just make out a couple scratches right behind the hammer. Roy said the gun "got out of the truck before I did once", obviously did not snag on his pants!
Laminated original article Roy gave me.

From looking at his grips the words good enough were not in his vocabulary, beautifully crafted grips.
Prayers sent.
