I have a few “near perfect for me” for specific purposes. My current near perfect lighter-weight, moose-rifle pursuit is a Kimber Montana 325 WSM with barrel cut to 22-1/4”.
Though it has two items in its design that I would prefer different. I would prefer a floor plate instead of a blind magazine, and an open style trigger rather than the enclosed type.
If it still groups as well as it did prior to the barrel reduction, I will be satisfied with that. And if it will it will achieve 2800 plus Fps with a Barnes 200 grain TSX, I will be happy with that.
Still a couple of “ifs” to be determined. But, I am hopeful. It is definitely an easy packing / handling rifle with a 1.5-6x42mm scope. Not my idea of a close quarters grizzly fighter. But less potent has certainly worked for other folks.

I don't mind the blind magazine for reliability and weight savings, but they are convenient. The 325 is a good choice for larger game. I wish it fed a like an old Mauser and I prefer a tang safety, but for those things you need a slightly heavier older M77 lightweight or a customized Mauser.

The Mauser I’m currently building will hopefully be my catch-all bolt gun. Rebarreled to .308.

I got on the Kimber bandwagon around the time Winchester went out of business. I may have bought this particular 325 prior to that. This is particular rifle is a very early production run. It had feeding issues from the get-go. My gunsmith squared it away. Another identical rifle and cartridge, later production no issues. I will add Kimber said they would fix it, with a quoted quick turnaround. Feed ramp was not the correct angle, obvious to the eye when comparing the identical rifles side by side.
I also have another Kimber Montana in 338 Winchester. I have yet to fire it, but it feds fine also. It has a 26” barrel, which may get a trim.
My wife has a Kimber Montana in 7mm-08. No issues with it either.
I am almost tempted to search for a Kimber Montana in 7mm WSM. I have one in a M70 stainless, New Haven classic. The 2 least popular WSM cartridges are my favorites of the line, 325 & 7mm.

Aint much to argue about, the perfect rifle is always the last one I had built!

Very True. The wheels are turning now for the next project 458 Lott. Aint much to argue about, the perfect rifle is always the last one I had built!

My 264 win mag is still my number 1 rifle for here in southern middle tennessee. Out to 400 yards, put the crosshairs in the ribs and pull the trigger. I regularly shoot offhand 200+yards with it. Picked up a Ruger tang safetly ultralight 30'06 that i am really liking. It is compact and very useful. I would have to put the '06 in that mix.
