I have that book, definitely a great read. Slash Ranch hounds by Dub Evans is another good one. If anyone is interested, I have about as many hound hunting books as I do handgun hunting and single action revolver books. I could stack them up and take a picture of the titles and authors if you interested in more reading.

Seems to me that handguns and hunting with hounds go hand in hand. It works for me at least!

Tradmark sent me this photo and asked me to post it: Somehow "cat" does not fit this picture...... Should be "ice age creature"

I think most of you have seen my lion that I have mounted life size above my desk. I took it many years ago using a nickel 357 S&W at VERY close range so I won't bore you with the details except to say it was 11 hours of hell on snow shoes in very cold weather. My taxidermist buddy who just died a few months back was with me on that hunt & he's mounted Lion's for over 50 years & treed hundreds of them. Mine was a mature cat but the one my young son shot with his bow would have scored Boone & Crockett if we had entered it (never have) & the head on his was bigger than the shoulders on mine!!! I've been in a more than a few Lions, but as mentioned will never kill another one. At the ball game tonight I talked with a guy who played football for me over 30 years ago & is a hardcore Lion hunter & he showed me a photo of the biggest Lion they have ever taken. Each of you look real close, this BIG Tom is prime, he is full of USDA prime venison from a few hours earlier & couldn't get any bigger. Tell me what he weighs....... I also knew the Blackburns of southern Utah, Jerry & Dell & their dad, can't remember his name, he's been dead for many years but Jerry is about my age. Famous dry ground Lion hunters. Jerry returned from Viet Nam & we got out about the same time & he became a State Trooper here in Idaho & we were friends for a long time until he transferred to Salmon, Idaho then I lost track of him. They took LOTS of Lions!! Dick

Tell me what he weighs....... Dick Without a point of reference, that is an impossible task. That's why it is easy to see how big Mark's cat is in reference to him. My outfitter comes from a four generation deep family of lion hunters as I mentioned in the article. Here is a picture of the cover of the LA Times magazine from 1946. The couple in the photo are my outfitter's great grandparents and the article featured them and their lion hunting exploits. This is my cat. I'm a hair over six feet tall and weigh 192. Here is another cat that was taken a couple of weeks before mine by the same outfitter. Definitely not canned.

We didnt stand 5 feet behind them. Just right smack next to them and you will notice the same thing with every animal i post. That said, i will hunt them again and again. Love them but in reality they are everywhere and theres certainly no shortage but yes, they are alot of work. I respect the elk and the african lion and pretty much the cape buff more than anything and they will get hunted again as well.

As far as cat hunting it was second only to tracking lion in africa on foot. Great hunt. I can highly recommend craig and chayne krumweide if u ever wanna go.

Thought someone would have ventured a guess by now. You guys know how much you weigh & you said your Lion was bigger than you. Your guide didn't have a guess either?? Here's 3 more Lions to look at. The first one was taken yesterday, take a guess at the weight. Second one was taken last week, guess on that one, you can see he's it holding lower so you can see his face but look at the cat's head & paws, it's a big cat! The third one was taken in the last 2 weeks, take a guess on this one, he's also holding it lower so you can see his face but you can see the cat's legs are hanging down into the snow, for sure a big Tom. Also you can look at the size of the hounds & get a reference. Anyone care to guess on these nice Lions? Dick

I'd guess a cat is heavier pound for pound than a man, because of heavier muscle density???

Dick, Just for fun and giggles I'll take a wild stab. Judging from the photos -- 1st cat = 135 pounds, 2nd cat 145, 3rd cat 155.
