Or better yet, try and find a 25-9. It's my favorite handgun of all that I've owned to date... Stump I'll second that... Took me 3.5 years, finally got a 25-9 a little over a month ago. Beautiful gun and a joy to shot. Its a very close tie with my old Vaquero for favorite handgun. It's a 6" now I gotta find a 4 inch, then many the 5" unfluted cylinder . 😁

If you can find a 25-5 cheap enough , you can send it in and have a new proper sized cyl fit to it . My 4" 25-5 is at S&W right now waiting to get a new cyl. Well, after getting my model 25-5 back from S&W last week, I would have to say that getting it re-cylindered is NOT a good idea. They did fit a new cylinder to the gun, about .454 in the tight spots ,and eggshaped to about .456, they also recrowned the barrel , looks like they used a .5" drill bit and just plunge cut the end . It is the worst work I have ever seen, they ruined the gun. It is now enroute to a real gunsmith to get straitened out. What a shame no more craftsman left at S&W apparently . An 8th grade shop class could have done a better job . Update to my earlier very negative S&W post above . I sent in two guns a few weeks apart, the 25-5 first that they messed up and also a 629-1 a little later . The 629-1 went in for a new cylinder and action/trigger job and to have any of the endurance upgrades that could be done while they had it . Well I got the 629 back, and they did an excellent job , just outstanding in every way . Have to give credit where it is due, it was great work . The cylinder throats are a little small , but that is what I was kind of hoping for so I could slug the barrel and send the cyl out to Alan H. and get it opened to .001 over groove diameter . So maybe not all is lost , there seems to be atleast one guy there who can still get it done .

Although I've moved on to other pastures outside of the 25 Classic since starting this thread, I'm still considering something in the S&W farm so-to-speak, and it's nice to know you got it back to your satisfaction. S&W's business model in regard to QC and overall perceived value is hard to judge these days unless they were given a proper multi-day audit by a competent smith, so I have to wonder if the squeakiest wheel got fast-tracked to the old timer/S&W vets amongst the bunch? So kudos nonetheless in this case.
