Continue to be impressed with this little gun. Had mine out today. Reactive targets from 28 to 75 yards. Running 23.8gr H110 under 240gr JFP. Had a great time. Slipped the gun in my back pocket and went to reset targets -- easy/reasonably secure and comfortable way to carry with modified 500 X frames shown in picture below. Had the range all to myself and had a great time. . Range . . Paul

There's a group of mule deer that live on the range. Not at all uncommon to see elk during the winter. Back in March we were watching 40 +- elk on the top of the ridge in the picture. Have also seen antelope and of course the ubiquitous coyotes. Someone reported seeing a moose recently. Never herd of anyone shooting at them and they don't seem to be bothered by gunfire.
Pretty nice facility rifle targets out to 1,400 yards, a metallic silhouette rifle range (500 meters), 800 yard hipower, 200 yard schutzen house and four pistol bays. The schutzen house and pistol house have wood burning stoves for winter use. All for $70 a year for NRA family memebership ($90/yr for non NRA memebers).

I think I've been to that range. Friend of mine passed and we hauled him from Billings to fort Harrison for burial. Stopped and shot, do he could rest in peace.

Sold a long gun that was black, today. One that I've never used in the years I've had it. Look out LGS headed your way for a Model 69 2.75" 44 to go along with my 4.25" 69. Pics to be added when the 69 I saw and fondled and drooled on is secured and brought home.

This little gun makes me smile every time out. Yesterday at the range shot 36 rnds 24.0gr W296, 240gr JSPs (these chrono a little over 1,100 fps from the 2.75" bbl). Only shot 36 because I ran out of ammo. Don't know what it is about this gun, but it just shoots for me -- had no problem with steel targets out to 70+ yards (see above range photo).
Today, put it in my back pocket (no holster -- will have to order back pocket holster - suggestions??) for the morning walk -- didn't even notice it was there.
Can't wait for E38's impression.

The handling qualities of the 69 was what first impressed me, one of the reasons I purchased one. The weapon sits lower in your hand and the recoil impulse is different than with the N frames. Overall size makes it quicker to swing on targets. I also belong to the 69 advocate club.

I know Doc, makes a back pocket holster. You might look into that.

Do the Houge grips work as well on the 2 3/4 as they do on it's bigger brother? Yes. Paul Paul Are the 500 X frame grips thicker than the stock grips? I saw where you shaved off the finger grooves in another post. Do you like that modification? Thanks. Marshall

Yes, they are thicker. For me the difference is the fuller, straighter, padded backstrap which prevents the grip from getting a running start at the web of my hand and protects the bone at the base of my thumb. The finger groves actually fit my hand and and removal didn't make any difference to me - just looks trimmer. We are all built differently, so as they say, your mileage may vary.
The third post on page 2 of this thread shows the unmodified X Frame 500s on the M69. The first post on this page is the set of X Frame 500 grips that I modified by sanding off the finger grooves and rounding the bottom of the grip using a mini belt sander (knife sharpener).

Paul, I like those modified grips on the 69 snubbie. I may have to do the same for mine. The full size 500 grips just look to bulky with the short barrel.

Paul, the videos work fine for me. But, I think the frame rate on the video is too slow to catch the muzzle flash most of the time. It would take a spcecial high speed camera to capture the muzzle flash accurately.

Thanks. I was wondering about that and it makes sense. The random capture of some flash at times and no flash a lot of the time, made me wonder if it wasn't the recording speed.
