Just received a wonderful note from Mr. Clements, my first custom and also my first .50 cal handgun is complete. In his words "It is accurate but it is a beast to shoot"...I can't wait!

It's a 1.4" 500 S&W (a.k.a 500 JRH, which is how I asked Mr. Clements to mark it) and was built on a blued Vaquero frame. I had him do the following: 4" barrel Fluted cylinder with black powder chamfer Sheriff's style locking base pin Scalloped gate and recoil shield Crescent ejector rod FA style round butt on the grip (round back, flat front and bottom) Buckeye Burl grips Originally I thought about a Blue/CCH finish but I rolled the dice and he did all parts in a high polish blue. The Buckeye Burl grips should look very nice in contrast to the all black finish. This was the gun that inspired me: singleactions.proboards.com/post/1574/thread

Should be a good one.....
I's funny, I cut and pasted pics of the same gun that inspired you and have it in my "Single Actions Gallery" folder in my computer.
I've been planning on having David do one for me in .45 Colt with a Max cylinder re-bored and installed.

Just made the first 50 cases and one test round of Trail Boss with a 330gr boolit. I can't remember which thread I got the suggestion from but using a thin Dremel cut off wheel made pretty quick work of it. I cut them a few mil long with the Dremel and finished to 1.400" with an RCBS case trimmer. The plan is to start with Trail Boss to get familiar with it and then move to Titegroup or Longshot to find a good working load that isn't too abusive but still has some punch. After that I might bust out the 4227 or 296 but I'm going to take things slowly with this one. Big holes and a short barrel can nasty in a hurry. Gun should be in my hands by Tuesday!

10 grains of Trailboss and 330 grain bullets will be great fun while you get familiar with the gun.

231 is a good powder for light loads in the .500 JRH.
