Coming home from work last night at midnight and something cut loose in the engine in my truck..... a horrid clanging sound. If its what I think it is I might have a few firearms for sale here very shortly 😞😕😔

hoping it's something cheap to fix... a man should only sell his guns, because he wants something different, not out of necessity

Do you remember the old trick of using a long screwdriver, long ratchet extension, jack handle, piece of pipe, etc, as a stethoscope against your ear & the other end against various parts of the engine to determine where the noise is coming from?
Of course be careful of the belts, etc.

Yep!
The timing light at my High School auto shop had a nice slice taken out of the end. Still worked though.

A fuel injector can go bad 2 ways.. 1. It dies and wont open shutting off fuel to the cylinder , causing a miss 2. It dies and cannot close and shut off fuel causing an engine miss and a knocking noise as the piston is trying not to hydro lock on a combustion chamber full of non compressible fuel versus compressible air/fuel mixture. Is the check engine light on?

Is the check engine light on? If he unplugged the injector wouldn't the knocking go away? Obviously it would have a miss and a lopey sound to it. But if the knock went away it would be less likely to be something mechanical.

Crap, didn't add that you would obviouslyhave to know which cylinder was the probable.
