If the injector has failed physically (open or closed) unplugging it won't change that. If it's an electrical failure (broken/damaged wire) then, of course, unplugging it can change it.
Pull spark plugs, see if one is wet? Or black?
Also, any auto parts store can scan check engine codes, which can usually tell you a lot! But, you'd probably have to get it there.

My truck goes to the mechanic this week. He is leaning towards a bad lifter but will know once he hears it. Ive layed under the truck and hunkered down over the top if the engine and it most certainly sounds like the knock us coming from topside..... but my hearing iant what it used to be. I listed a few pcs for sale elsewhere with the intent of finally buying that 45acp vaquero that Alaskan454 has for sale..... but it looks like the proceeds will be going to fix whatevers wrong.... hopefully they will cover it anyways 😉

Well... Here's hoping that it ends up being a minor issue & easy to repair.

Do you know if that engine has roller lifters, or flat tappet lifters?
Is the camshaft lobe under that lifter still in good condition?
I'm not up to speed on newer engines. The older engines with hydraulic flat tappet lifters & camshafts experienced premature failures at the lifter & cam lobe interface due to zinc being removed from automotive oil.
A zinc additive such as ZDDP needs to be included during the oil change, or run one of the "racing" or "off-road" type of oils that still contain zinc. I've been using Valvoline VR1 in my flat tappet engines.

"I feel your pain!" I had to finally put my 1992 Toyota SR5 down last night. I have put about 3 x what the truck is worth in repairs over the last 3 years. Second head blown gasket was the last straw.
Time to find another truck to drive for 24 years.
