My favorite powders in order of preference: 45 Colt... Universal 454... Universal, H110/296 44Spl/Mag... Universal, H110/296, sometimes Lil'Gun. 32 H&R Mag... Universal, Lil'Gun. 327 Federal Mag... Universal, H110/296, Lil'Gun. I want to get some HS6 one day and try it... I hope to someday Maybe just use Universal for short guns, and maybe Varget for long guns. Maybe Sometimes I play around with Trailboss to in some but, not often... I don't load 38/357 so no help there But, I'd bet it would be Universal and H110/296 Hope this helps. BigBore44

I second Universal, even for the 38/357. Another favorite for most calibers is Green Dot. I also like 2400 in .357, 41 mag, 44 sp and 44 mag.

I really like Accurate No.9 for my.44 Magnum. I get great accuracy and consistency.

My most used powders have always been Unique & 2400 in all the straight wall calibers. In my competition revolvers its WST by a landslide.

Hi...
I have after 35-40 years settled on a few favorite powders for handgun reloading.
.38Special...I use Bullseye, cheap per shot and I use the .38 for nothing but punching holes in paper and breaking clay birds on the target berm. .357Magnum...Blue Dot for target shooting/generic all-purpose loads. 2400 and W296 when I want to go near the top end. .44Special...Unique .44Magnum....Unique for all-purpose loads. 2400 and 296 when I want close to full power loads. .45Colt......Unique for almost all my shooting with this cartridge although I do load some heavy loads in my SBH with 2400 and W296. .45ACP/AutoRim...Bullseye .41Magnum....Unique, 2400 and W296 depending on the application and platform.
I also use Herco, Red Dot, Power pistol, AA#7, AA#9, Imr 4227 and a few others as the mood strikes me when I want to test a particular gun or cartridge and or bullet type or design. If push came to shove, I could probably get buy very nicely with Unique, 2400 and Bullseye. I hope it never comes to that.

Where might you recommend I look to order some supplies?
The local inventory is not very promising.
Thank you.

I've ordered a lot of powder & primers from Precision Reloading lately, they always have a wide selection in stock and if you choose Fed Ex shipping the Hazmat fee is only $15.

Powder Valley usually has decent prices, if you need quantity. Myself I like Vihtavuori powder - 310 takes the place of Bullseye. N340 and 350 are good for 45 ACP with 255/265 cast bullet, 44 Magnum and 45 Colt - N110 I find better than H110, as it doesn't have that sharp snap to it, N120 takes the place of IMR-4227. Their rifle powders perform very well - you just need to stock up, as when powders dry up - Vihtavuori is impossible to find.

Thank you.
Any other recommendations?
What is the difference between Universal & Universal Clays?
How well do Winchester primers perform? Will small pistol primers & large pistol primers cover all powders? Or are magnum primers required for some powders?

So I've done a few searches & it appears that Universal & Universal Clays is the same. Could someone please verify that?
I'm thinking of ordering some Universal & some H110/296, along with small & large Win primers.
I've used Unique, 231, AA#9 & 296 in the past. Looks like Unique is hard to find these days. It is sold out/on back order most places.
I seem to recall reading somewhere that AA#9 can equal H110/296 velocity in 44 Mag & heavy 45 Colt with less pressure. Can't find that info any longer though.
Thank you.
