When I was a young shooter, I read everything ever written by Skeeter Skelton. Through his writings, I became enamored with the .44 Special. I also developed an affinity for the 5-1/2" barrel length, as like Skeeter, I think this is the perfect barrel length for packing when in the outback. While I have had numerous Ruger single actions over the years, I have always had a hankering for a real Colt Single Action revolver chambered in .44 Special. I have had my heart set on a Colt New Frontier and had resigned myself to getting one with a 7-1/2" barrel as those are the most prevalent for anywhere close to a decent price. While perusing the web the other day, I stumbled across my grail gun, A Colt New Frontier with a 5-1/2" barrel chambered in .44 Special for a fantastic price. The shop listed it as 95% and from the photos, it appears to me that they are spot on. I called them up and to my surprise, they still had it in the case. I bought it on the spot and I am hoping to have it in hand sometime next week. I am not a fan of the factory stocks, so I am on the search for a set of the black checkered eagle stocks as this will be a working gun. I may, as funds permit, get a set of elk stags for this beauty, which will be perfect for those Sunday evening BBQ's. I am also looking for the proper holster to carry this baby. Thanks to this site, I am leaning towards a Threepersons holster from Doc Barranti to carry this pistola out in the field. I am thinking Skeeter would approve......

very nice!
if that's your Skeeter gun then you need Doc's Bar-T holster to go along with it!

When I was younger and didn't have a family I really wanted a real Colt in 44-40. Ivory grips and all. I even had the money at one time. But I ended up spending it on other guns, booze and trying to pickup women.LOL

Great looking gun. I'll bet it shoots as good as it looks too.
My NF rides well in a Threepersons holster. I think it will be a good choice. Mine is from El Paso Saddlery.
I have been able to get several sets of black eagle grips off eBay. Some fitting usually required.

Robb I note that many jokingly call others here enablers, but I also notice there are many that will give freely of their time and stuff to folks they may not even know personally. I beginning to recognize some of the forum "handles" and I want to say this is a very nice gesture right here. Enablers or not, these handguns will last our lives and will usually go to our children. I sure hope I don't catch the Colt bug, as the Ruger flu is costing me enough already!

Shoot me your address and I will send you a set of Colt eagle grips that are taking up space in the parts box. Robb Wow, that is so awesome! I really like the looks of the eagle grips on single actions and I think these will outfit my NF nicely..... That "Bar T" holster is a beauty! I will have to take a closer look at those on Doc's site... On another note, I have been trying to locate a date of manufacture on my NF. The serial number is 14111NF. I looked at the Colt site and also the "Proofhouse.com" site and neither one had a record of it. Anyone know where else I can look? Thanks, Mick
