Great pictures. The third picture -- classic grizzly -- Magnificent animals. That grizzly, right out of hibernation, looks to be in great shape. A lot more around than the various gov agencies want to admit.
Maybe eight, ten years ago, a 450 Lb male was killed (mistaken? black bear bow kill) in the area we bow hunt elk. Same year, my son found grizzly sign (scat, rocks, logs overturned) where we bow hunt elk.
A couple of years later, a local rancher (maybe 7 miles form the house), killed a grizzly marauding his stock pens (charged him when he went to investigate).
My son and his hunting partners spot them occasionally while glassing for spring black bear.
They are out there and in numbers that officials, for whatever reason, don't want to admit.

Great photo's, the gov. wants to delist them & have some controlled hunts to manage the numbers which are actually quite high now but it will be a fierce battle, just like with the wolves. Also, I'm not so sure the Grizzly is the top predator with the wolves being there, a pack of them can pretty much dominate anything they want.

Nice pic ! Have seen Grizzlies in Yellowstone and the Bob Marshall. Seems early for the bear to be out and looking that healthy ? Here, spring seems to be about 3 weeks ahead of what I consider the norm.

Cool. I've seen lots of them here in AK and the best sightings are like the one you saw. When you can watch them doing something like eating on a kill, digging for ground squirrels, chasing a moose or any other number of things they do. Thanks for sharing.

I'm just curious as to what handgun caliber would be the best if he charged...

The biggest one you can shoot real accurate, real fast, really fast !! Yup! I'm just curious as to what handgun caliber would be the best if he charged... General rule of thumb is minimum .430 320gr flatnose hardcast at 1200fps and up from there, wrapped in the gun of your preference. You will find the occasional 357 fan and it seems the younger crowed thinks 200gr 10mm auto with a 10rnd mag is the approach. Personally I'll stick with a wheel gun with min of .452 355gr wfn at 1300. That's my AK woods carry load in a 4" 454 Redhawk conversion.
