I bought an 8# keg last year before I read up on the erosion issues in Freedom Arms 454 revolvers. It was acquired specifically to load in my first 454 single action so I'm thinking either I will give it a try in the 480 or sell/trade it to a 410 or 22 hornet shooter. If anyone has practical experience with it please let me know as I have been told it's a very bad idea at 454 pressures but it seems to produce lots of velocity even down at 35-40K PSI in the 480. That's quite a bit lower than 50K+ psi in the 454. Any help is appreciated.

I have used it for years in smaller guns. Including a T/C Contender Carbine in 25-20 that is used for varmint hunting. The gun has been fired thousands of times with no sign of throat erosion. Accuracy remains spectacular.
Ditto on the 357 Magnum. Pressure very low, performance high and no signs of erosion.
Bob Baker told me not to use it in the 454, so I don't. But, know many that use it in cartridges that are 45,000 psi and under with zero issues.

Thank you, I wouldn't feel the need to push it past 40-45k psi. It seems to produce a lot more power at lower pressure than some of the older H110 type powders.

Bought a can when it first came out, all hot to try it out. Never even broke the seal on it.

My expirience has been similar to ENCORE's... I have used it in hotter 45 Colt loads, but at pressures much less than 454

I use it in 22 Hornet and some 44 mag loads. I also have some 25-20 loads loaded up to try out next range session.
I just started out with a 454 SRH, so not too sure what I will be using in that yet?

I found it to be noticeably peppier than a like charge of H110. I don't care for it.

I use it for a lot of different rounds from .17 caliber to 480. A favorite load in the 480 was 15 grains of Lil'gun under 400 grain bullets. It was a starting load that ran little over 1000 fps. It was far from being a hot load and was accurate. I use it in a lot of different loads and never had any problems

I also tried it in the Single 7 with 32 H&R and 327 Fed.
I try to keep Unique, Universal, Lil'Gun, H110, Varget, H380 on the shelf ALWAYS!

Yes but I'm not pushing light boolits fast. Heavy 454. 355gr 26gr LilGun at 1300fps in a 4" Redhawk. Less powder than H110 same velocity, not as snappy recoil. 435gr 454 levergun load as well. Also 500L. John Gallagher test load was 29gr under CP 435gr. I've done some loading/shooting with 450gr and 28.5-29 gets me 1300+. I'm currently working up a 525-540gr load with it as well. It's not temp sensitive like H110. 5 shot ES very low like less than 20. Some loads 10-15.

Thanks Ya, 500L. I've barely got started. I posted this the Revolver Bullets thread... 21-21.5gr LilGun is smokey and sooty shoots patterns 22 gr LilGun is 1074 5 shot avg. 16fps ES. no smoke 22.5gr LilGun 1092 5 shot avg 36fps ES 23gr - Haven't gone there yet These 2 loads began to group. Now I need trigger time to give them (and me!) a good test. Boolit is this one on the left, CP 525 on the right. I've got the mould on loan. It's closer to 540 though with 5/1 ww/lino alloy lube and checked. I figured I'd try this one out before I have Veral cut me one. princeout has been kind enough to loan it to me for a time. Notice it's cut for rifle checks, I only have pistol checks though. I'm not sure that's make any difference in accuracy.

I loved it in a 41 mag with heavy slugs. Extremely accurate and very good velocities but that's the only one I ever used it in.

It's awesome in a Savage ML-1 muzzleloader. 54gr LilGun, a sabot with the petals cut off, then a 240gr JHP in a sabot to top it off. It was amazingly accurate but it ruined a lot of meat on the deer.
There used to be a website that was dedicated to the rifles, but it got taken down when the guy that ran it had a falling out with Savage.

I use it in my .45 Colt and several others. Never had any problems. Always figured if it was the 'bugaboo' that it has been labeled, Hodgdons wouldn't keep putting data for it in their loading manuals as lawsuit crazy as people are nowadays.
