What a terrific first Freedom Arms. I love my FA-97 45 Colt and FA-83 454 Casull. Sure you will yours as well.
Congratulations....

Forgot to mention, this will be taking the 100yd iron sight challenge with all three cylinders on it's first range trip. I've got 155gr ACPs, 255 and 300gr in Colt +P, and some 300gr mid range Casull loads ready and waiting. As well, there are some 300gr XTP mags waiting to be loaded hot for trip number two. I think a hefty dose of H4227 will do the trick.

Alaskan454.... most curious to see how your 4-3/4" M83 .454 Casull with additional Colt & ACP cylinders groups @ 100 yards with the Freedom Arms express sights. Probably to reduce aiming error from the huge sights found rifles built for up-close & fast, makers shrunk the bead when borrowing the arrangement for handguns. The express option offered by Ruger, for instance, diminished the bead to obscurity in the dim or mottled light where the express sight supposedly shines.
Must confess for these reasons my experience with the express on magnum revolvers is limited to first impressions, with poor results. Like the forcing cone, sights are a necessary evil (unlike Hollywood, where live ammunition is prohibited). Sadly, no single sight serves all shooting best, thus we compromise.
With open minds let us await your report. David Bradshaw

Congrats on the new FA. Looking forward to a range report. I too had issues with the express sights and small groups. Hope you have better luck.
That 45acp should be a hoot in the 83 platform.

PPP for sure. One gun that can do it all.

Outstanding! IMO a FA is the revolver most custom builders try to equal. There are none better than what you just purchased. I am anxious to hear how it shoots the .45 Acp ammo.

The Freedom Arms website has a chart for regulating front blade height to barrel length for respective cartridges chambered in models 83 and 97. It is worth a look, as it correlates sight height to barrel length, a ratio based on BARREL TIME of standard factory loads. It is important to know whether one strangled the grip or Free Recoils it, the bullet raises the muzzle before it leaves the barrel. Understanding this should liberate the shooter to stop fighting the gun and ride it. This note is directed at New shooters and not as an insult to marksmen/markswomen.
As for the value of the auxiliary .45 ACP cylinder, my grandmother might have put it this way: "Apple pie without cheese is like a kiss without a squeeze." David Bradshaw

All, thanks for the kind words. As for the sights, I may have a trick up my sleeve that was not disclosed. The rear sight is not an express V style, I've tried many and never warmed up to them. It is the standard square notch rear and I have a partridge style front that a forum member on go2gbo was kind enough to send me. The sight picture is actually quite nice with the FO front but I will try the target front sight as well on my first trip. As others have said this to me is the perfect packin' pistol, especially since I get to switch cylinders and sights so easily.

THAT is a GUN...now what do you plan to carry such a fine firearm in???
I have a square butt 83 and a round butt 97 and have really liked the feel of the round butt 83s I have held at the SHOT Show FA booth. If I ever find a .41 Magnum just like yours for sale it will be coming home with me.
As to your sights..I use the exact same setup for hunting and David Clements made a Long Range front sight with two gold bars for long range and target shooting. Express Vs don't make it for me either...
Glad it was worth the wait!!!
Bob
