Love the pics. I may have missed it but maybe it is a sixgun.

On the idea that a factory Ruger 480/500 will lower the value of a Custom 480/475/500/510 I don't see it happening. A true full up custom is a completely different animal. The guys with itches for such things will never get that itch scratched with an off the shelf offering from Ruger. I'd think that what would happen is that guns chambered for the cartridge will become much more common. Heck, it will even whip a whole new group into a custom big bore gun frenzy. I have to agree with Axe! The Lipsey run of .44 Special FlatTops inspired Ruger to make it a standard catalog item but it didn't diminish the CUSTOM REVOLVER a bit! Just provided a supply of mid-frame guns to do further customization, etc. If it's a 5hole .480 and am betting it is then if sales are fast enough and high enough Ruger might make it a regular item which will just fuel more customs simply because it will provide an economical base requiring less work to say provide this or that barrel length etc, etc ,etc That's what I was thinking, at least for myself. Ruger base gun plus a <$1K in tuning/barrel/sights or whatever and I suspect you'd have a VERY nice shooter for less than a full custom build and a way shorter wait. This is in part dependent on how Ruger builds these guns, of course. It won't be a full custom, but I think it'll fill a niche.

Can't remember how many times I asked for one using the ask the ceo tab on ruger's Web page. I don't need a 480 bisley because I have a 475 bfr. We all know that need has nothing to do with it

Whatever they release I just hope they put enough effort into quality control to make sure they are decent revolvers when they leave the factory. I been a huge Ruger fan since the early 70's but the last two handguns I purchased were dismal and both had to go back to be repaired after their maiden voyage to the range.

I've been weighing my big bore options since I joined this site and the influence of all these great enablers began pelting my poor, fevered brain with custom ideas. :-) I considered customs, Freedom Arms, BFRs... this new Lipseys/Ruger offering is just what I need. I loaded some 480 shells yesterday for good luck. It's a "If you load it, they will build it" kind of thing.

WOW...That photo of the cylinder does look about right for a 480R but with the small rim its not much wider than a 45colt so? That short base pin with a locking screw kinda screams short barrel. One thing is certain... Its a Bisley.
As much as I want Ruger to come out with a 480 blackhawk I'm betting on a 3.5" barreled 45Colt.

Interesting... I have read of those. Mine is marked 475 Linebaugh / 480 Ruger. My Ruger #1 is marked 475 Linebaugh. Obviously, it shoots 480 Ruger just fine. Have you tried to chamber 475 Linebaugh ammo in your revolver? Just curious if they used a different reamer. I love all the big bores, so any of them will be fine with me. The Ruger guns are much lighter than the BFRs, so should be a great carry gun. I got Gary Reeder to convert a stainless Williams Bisley 45 Colt to 454 Casull. With a 5 1/2" barrel, it's carry gun #1. A 480 Ruger or 500 JRH playmate would suit me just fine. I don't have any .475 to try in it, but the bbl. is marked only .480 Ruger and pretty sure it wont take any longer. I only know the chambers are very tight and it wont accept cast bullets over .475 dia.(like most are!) I get mine from Rimrock sized to .475 inch.

I believe it. The chambers on my BFR 454 Casull are tighter than my Freedom Arms. Brass lasts forever.
Sounds like a great revolver you have there.

Some time ago I did a thread on shortening the bbl from the outrageous factory 8 inches to a more portable 6 on here. Its a very good shooting revolver. Thanks.

Spoke to my LGS manager this morning. Ask him to put one on order asap.
Can't go wrong with Ruger anyways. A little custom work may make a fine semi custom.

Whatever the beast turns out to be I'll be needing to send mine out to Gary Reeder for a good action job with custom grips and his gunfighter grip frame mod. Hope the front sight is pinned or we'll be replacing that too.

Yep, me too. Probably a two tone vapor honed / polished finish too.

Too funny. Over 100 posts, orders already made and nobody even knows what it is yet. "You might be a gun nut...."
