You only have a few hours... GO In the mean time...I'll be refreshing myself with the cartridge in one of Mr. Taffin's books.

You can do anything with a .41 that you can with a .44 until you get to the heavier bullets. My wife gave me a Model 57 S&W for a birthday many moons ago. I found it a tad more pleasant to shoot with full house loads than the 29 and have been a convert since. Shoot one, you will be too.

Thanks Gentlemen!
Still not convinced on the 41 MAG yet... but I have been drooling at the picture on the top of page 99 in "Big Bore Sixguns" of its little Brother.

Better start buying them if you like such things. The cost effectiveness of the labor intensive processess to build the old school steel guns is slowly being overcome by plastic and composite technology.

I'd stay with the 44. My experience with the 41 has been louder, more muzzle flash than a 44. The recoil on either is a non-issue for me. Some misguided folks call it a connoisseur's cartridge. If that is what you are looking for then a S&W Model 24 or 624 would fill that bill.

IF...IF...YOU do not have at least one of EVERY caliber you just ain't with it, Sonny Boy !!! ME ? I want every BBL length in every caliber....in every make.....the saving grace on the 41MAG is it's modern specs ALL of which have been maintained by all manaufacturers and from which I've NEVER heard of a goofy shooting 41MAG as a result.....among others...

I can't convince you. I never seen a need or want to own a 41 magnum during my short life of 61 years. The 44 mag will do anything the 41 will do plus more. Why add another set of dies, bullets, etc if you don't have to.

All of my firearms have a use. You want to know if you should add a caliber to your collection. I have no use for the .41's. As far as collecting ? Go for it. The economy needs help.

Stump, you absolutely need a 41 maggie, fine accuracy with very little experimenting. Recoil is just like any of the others, you can take it where ever you feel comfortable. I've seen you shoot & you and the 41 would get along great! As mentioned, you have to go beyond 250 gr bullets for the 44 to have an edge & who needs anything heavier than 250 grs..... I've shot them through elk & bear & a bunch of deer. Yes, get a 41, you'll be very happy.

They have magical powers. No need for silver bullets for werewolves and vampires. I also hear they are pure death on zombies. All with plain old cast lead bullets. Myself I didn't have one nor have an interest in one, till I found this place. I was originally looking for a 375 super mag and ran across a fellow that had built a 375 atomic. I was told to give the 41 a try while gathering needed items to build one or the other or maybe even both 375's. So I ended up going with a sw 627. Have not had a chance to wring it out yet but am getting there. Initial targets were promising I will say. I would really like one of the Ruger hunters or a 5.5 ss Bisley to tinker with. You say "collection" and you don't have one? Sounds like you are a caliber short to me. Jeff
