As I wrote yesterday, picked up TWO .44 Special Colt New Frontiers. And, here they arte! The 7 1/2" is an older generation, the 5 1/2" is current production with the Eliason rear sight. Couldn't be happier! These are my current Colts, two .44 Specials, a .45 Colt, and a custom .357 Magnum SAA: Bob Wright

VERY nice! Is the 7-1/2" 44 3rd-Gen?
On the NEW Frontiers, according to Colt they will not be available in 44 Special 4-3/4" for some untold reason. So, I have a 5-1/2" on order...someday soon...but every NEW Frontier I've seen has been beautifully done. I think they are great, and I LOVE the Elliason rear sight. Also, the NEW Frontiers I have seen have more vibrant case colors than I am used to seeing from Colt, like Turnbull colors. Very nice.
...and please tell us about that custom SAA...

...and please tell us about that custom SAA... That Colt has a special meaning to me, Boge. It belonged to my son-in-law. It was he that had Ed Mason Gunsmiths install the S&W rear sight and a custom front sight. He had me make the one-piece style walnut grips. He was killed in an auto wreck in 1979 and my daughter gave the gun to her former father-in-law. Some time later I saw the gun in a gunshop, and recognized my home made grips. I immediately bought the gun. Some time later I had the front sight removed and replaced with a Ruger Blackhawk front sight. I had a brass backstrap from a Uberti 1851 Navy, so put that on as I have sort of a penchant for brass mounted guns. As you might note from the photo, I use it mostly as a .38 Special. As to the Colts, the 7 1/2" is second generation New Frontier, while the 5 1/2" is current production, with the Eliason rear sight. Bob Wright

Beautiful sixgun, the ones that have meaning like that transcend mere objects. I was hoping that was a 2nd-Gen. I don't own a 2nd-Gen New Frontier, but I certainly hope to.

Wonderful! You can definitely tell that Turnbull is doing the colors on the new New Frontiers.
Hey Boge, any idea how long the lead time is on new New Frontiers? If I can't have a 4¾", I need to get in line for a 5½".

I don't think that Colt has made more than about 250 of the new New Frontiers. They just have their priorities elsewhere.
Yes, Tunrbull is doing all of the case coloring on these.

THE NEW PRODUCTION New Frontier SAA revolvers are now showing up with serial numbers around 350 I am told. Luckily, I have all of mine but one.

I've had my 5-1/2" 44 Special on order for about two or three months. They say I should get it in the next couple of weeks, which of course means...................absolutely nothing.

Bob, the 7&1/2" appears to be a 3rd gen(?). Can you tell us the serial # or part of the serial #?

Bob Wright.... I have never liked the S&W sight on a 1911 or non-S&W revolver. Your revolver is the exception that proves the rule. David Bradshaw
