I used to own one of these in .410 bore.
The "Tamer" is the Pardner single shot, but altered to a 20" barrel. Finish is a fairly matte electroless nickle, and the composite thumbhole buttstock is set up with built-in storage for 4 rounds of .410.
I really like the concept of a compact grab-n-go gun which can be left stashed for indefinite periods of time, but used without hunting up peripherals. Ursurprisingly, therefere, I liked the little popper, but ultimately couldn't warm up to the performance of .410 shotshells. Like every other .410 I've ever owned, it patterned better with the 1/2 ounce 2 1/2" load than the 11/16 3" load. It passed it on to a co-worker.
I just now saw that NEF makes the gun in 20G. Now there is an improvement in the concept. You lose one round of ammo storage, and I suspect recoil is a stout, but an ounce of shot, and it's overall a win/win.
Didn't know that when I bought a friend's project. It's a Pardner in 12G. He cut it to 18 5/8", had a Mossberg choke insert installed, and installed a Ray-Bar front bead. A storage compartment forend holds a spare tube. It's set up as purchased, but 12G is not a pleasant round in the lightweight, and the finish is regular blued.
Choate makes the buttstocks for NEF, so I will install an ammo carrying buttstock.

When I was in my yondering phase, I carried a 18+" Winchester 370. It kicked like a mule but was short and handy. I took a lot rabbits and quail with it. A light 20 qauge with ammo storage is a good thing to have. Rob

The following is fiction, as told to me by a friend more than 10 years ago: (Paraphrased) "I once had a single shot 20ga with a pistol grip and a 12" barrel, recoil was actually manageable, but this thing flailed around in the hand like nobody's business. I once backed it up against my hip for a shot, and the bruise took two weeks to heal on a healthy 18 year old. It didn't pattern well enough to reliably hit stop sign sized targets at 15 yards. When I got older and wiser, I turned it into slag with a torch and dumped it in the scrap metal pile." Of course I didn't believe him, but maybe he had heard the story from someone that had an illegal weapon like that.
I'll delete this post if anyone thinks that it might be too tempting to cause someone to try something illegal.

I'm thinking of trying to locate a savage 24 in .22 over 20. Repaint the trigger guard (cuz they ALL seem to lose the anodizing there) and set up an ammo box in the stock and viola!

IIRC the Choate forestock has storage available as well.
I have an old H&R 20 gauge that I put the Choate stock on. It makes a light, handy little shotgun even faster handling and it's genuinely nice to have the shells at the ready. Especially in the fall when you're just taking a short walk and don't have pockets.

(1) Was aware of the .45/.410 Survivor, never seen one in the flesh. Not real enthusiastic about the bisexual chamber, though. The two .45/.410 guns I've had hands-on with were good .410s and middlin' to miserable .45s.
These guns were an early and pretty collectible Contender from the limited early production of that round (BATF fought 'em on this one), and an Argentine made Rexio.
If they made a Survivor rifle in a dedicated .45LC chamber, I'd be on that like a cat on tuna.
(2) The Choate forend from the Midway ad is the one on the gun. It has a prominent thumbscrew to ease access.
The buttstock is a hollow plastic number from the NEF spare parts collection, but made by Choate. I like the ammo slot persuasion better. It does allow storage, but requires an easily lost P-head screwdriver to access. Odds are it'll eventually be given away on here, as I know some folks do like them.
I'm in the thing for hundred and a half, maybe a lot for an NEF some folks find at yard sales, but add the cut barrel, choke tube, sight, sling, swivels, forend...
I pick it up tomorrow afternoon.

I was just EMailed that my write-up on the .410 Tamer from the defunct Miles Fortis website has survived, although the photo images have perished. My soul it was cold that sunny January day. www.milesfortis.com/church/akc69.htm

I've got one of the little NEF .410's and have had a lot of fun with it. Actually got me to reload shotshells. I'd thought about the survivor stocks for it but find it just fine as is unless I run across a deal too good to pass up. Got me some brass shell cases to play with now too but they keep emptying out in my pocket.
