All of these pictures of David Bradshaw's old 29 inspired me to dig out my 4". Around the same time a forum member (Mellonhead) offered up a set of Arhends grips. This is their Retro Target contour and they're cut from cocobolo. For years I've tried to find a set of N-Frame grips that suit my hand. The search is over. These are the finest I've ever used on a big Smith. Yesterday I put 200 rounds of mild 44 Special through the gun and couldn't be happier with how it points (the load was 6.0 of Green Dot and a 250 gr Keith). -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I have a set exactly like that, same shape and wood, on my Model 29-4. They are very nice, as you say, but I think they are just a little too thin for my hands. Actually, they are too thin in the middle; the top and the bottom thickness seems to work ok. If only they made that same style with some palm swell, or coke bottle shape. Maybe I should write them an email...

best wood I have seen Ahrends use... I hate the shape for my hands...Bill Jordan and Steve Herrett figured it out for me several decades before I was born:-)

Nice. Just an hour ago I ordered a set of his retro bananas for my recently acquired 3" Horton 657-4. I went with moradillo.

That's some of the nicest cocobolo I've seen.

So that's what my gun would have looked like had you not beat me to the grips. Chris

If you ever want a certain wood or color, just call him up and ask. One of the nicest fellows I have ever dealt with. Always finds exactly the shade or grain I am looking for. No extra cost, just wants to get you what you want.

I can confirm what Tas says. I had them make me a set of K-frame grips out of Osage Orange. No extra charge or anything since they had the wood in stock.

I'll be sending some money Arhend's way soon. I'm very impressed with their fit, finish, and grain quality. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time'

If you want something "off the shelf", Brownells' prices are good, especially if you qualify for a "dealer" discount with them.
Lee, can you post some rear view pics of those grips on the gun? I'd like to get a feel for the profile. While I like those grips in the K-frame size, I've never seen the N-frame Retro Combat version.
Thanks, Chris

Beautiful blend of red & black on those scales. They LOOK comfortable. I'd soften the corners and taper the toe. The wood is as honest a compliment a revolver can have to warm your hand. David Bradshaw
