We built this .264 a few years back and today I found its pet load. 64.0 of Retumbo with a 140 gr Sierra Game King went 3,200 fps and did this (5 shots, 100 yards): It's based on a 98 Mauser and fit with 27.5" worth of match grade Shilen stainless. The scope is a 60's vintage 12X Redfield, fine cross-hairs. I also installed a Timney trigger set to 1.5 lbs. If any of you shoot the old 264 you may want to give this load a try. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

I had a bud growing up that swore by his Dad's pre-64 M70 264. His Dad never used it preferring the same rifle in 270 Win. I have hunted and still own a 22" M700 270 but always wondered what it would do with a 26" tube.

Lee.... I know some .264 enthusiasts. One, a handgun silhouetter, built his on an M700 with Shilen stiff stainless barrel for rather long shots on Texas whitetails. Another, an old deer tracker whom later switched to .357 and .44 S&W's for his deer slaying, used the pre-64 Model 70 with original blackened stainless 26" barrel.
Looks like you found a sweet spot for a cartridge which can be load-sensitive. David Bradshaw

Pretty gun, and a shooter to boot!
I have developed a fondness for all things .264 in the last several years, accumulating 6 different guns (long and short) in 6.5 something...the Win Mag is on the acquire list.
