Finding information on the surf is dang near impossible. Does anyone on here have and shoot their Uberti "Buckhorn" or an import thereof? I have lots of questions. I don't like heavy loads cause it just seems to mistreat the revolver. If the loading gate pops open, I ease off the load till it won't pop open. 44-40

I have a Uberti Buckhorn 44 Magnum / 44-40 convertible. Nice gun but I wouldn't push it to hard. It'll safely handle factory mag but the Buckhorn isn't as stout as a Blackhawk. Durability would be my long-term concern. Yours looks like quite a shooter. Another neat Uberti model is their new Callahan. It's similar in size to the Buckhorn but has adjustable sights and a longer gripframe: -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Lee,
Tell me more about this Calihan, especiall the rear sight. The early Buckhorns has windage adjustments via opposing screws. Are these click adjustble as on the Blackhawks?
And, caliber offerings?

Bob - the Callahan was announced in early 2011 but few have been produced and/or shipped. There's a fixed and adjustable sight version and all are 44 Magnum. The rear sight is elevation and windage. The front sights are fixed but removeable (they're screwed into the barrel). -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

When I use high pressure loads it feels like everything inside binds up. I'd say that is a short life expectancy if shot regularly....but then again who knows. I shot ONE factory Speer Gold Dot 210gr JHP and the loading gate did not pop open. Did not pay any attention to the "binding". I was paying more attention to what popped up on the chronagraph.....1450fps@972fps. Box says personal defense loads. well...ok. This is what I carry daily in Georgia although I am much more partial to the 44-40.

That Callahan is one I'd like to have, but apparently it's vaporware around these parts.

@ LeeMartin:
Could I get you to measure that cylinder of yours? I tried getting a 44-40 conversion cylinder from Numrich, but what they sent was too short... I'm wondering if the 44 magnum only version is different somehow...TIA

The Callahan TARGET sites look like a Ruger SBH. I think they are ugly. Of course, beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I shot nothing but 320s at about 1,300 fps out of my Callahan. Didn't protest once.

I agree Whit, but I question how long it would take that level. My Callahan has more endshake than I like and some sideplay. 320's at 1,300 fps would exacerbate both. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Local shop has an adjustable sighted Callahan. It's a beautiful sixgun and I'd love to bring it home but haven't been able to pull the trigger on it.

Land us another one and we will. The only other concern I have with top end Magnum in the Callahan is the barrel shank. It's pretty thin and the forcing cone is too aggressive for my taste (remember their Tornados?). I'll check bore alignment tonight to see how they run. Either way, I think mid-level Magnum or heavy 44 Special is more apt for these guns. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"
