It all started with a 9422 in 1974... Then, a year later, a pre-64 Model 94, a nice gift from my dad... Then a few years back I was thinking....hmm, "I sure liked shooting my dad's old Marlin 39A..." They kinda grow on you (like single actions)! Since taking this Marlin photo I've somehow managed to snag a couple nice pre-safety 1894s in .44 and .357 Magnum.oh, and last month a Marlin Texan 336 Magnum in .44 Magnum came home! It's not likely you will stop with a couple lever guns. Good luck with the affliction! Bob

That is a great gift. Passing liberties on to the next generation.

What can I say??
The Marlin Cowboy variants with the longer octagonal barrel have my attention. I don't have one but I've been sorely tempted.
Leverguns are fascinating; the history, the very broad range of variations and the sheer fun of shooting them.
You've undoubtedly read my post about the jamming model 94. I was a little intimidated at first. I can completely disassemble one in about two minutes now. I will eventually resolve that problem.
Beats the heck out of golf.

Man those look nice. The tried and true lever still gets it done, a hundred and fifty years later. My go to gun is the 94 Win. Big Bore in 356 but the Marlin Texan in 44 is really nice. My boy has one and killed a nice hog with it a couple months ago. The Marlin 39A is a classic as well. I waited until I was about 40 years old to own one....a mistake for sure in waiting that long.

Mr. Terry, I hate that those Marlin cowboy guns are so high. I have stayed with the more run-of-the-mill lever guns. It is amazing how new shooters who come to my range LOVE lever guns. Especially Europeans. I had a group of Germans out one day and they went nuts over my 9422 Winchester. We were about done shooting when I pulled my 9422 from it's case....In unison..."ahhh a Winchester" it must be those Westerns. Smiles on every face. We shot for at least another hour....just kept loading up the 9422!
Golf? What's golf?
Cd, Thanks. I sure like the feel of a lever gun. That is great that your son has the fever too! Hard not to like a lever gun. I'd love to kill a hog with one...maybe that short barreled 336 you see in the pic.

This over a lighter charge of 2400. Complete penetration and he died quickly. He was quartering towards us and was hit on the opposite side, which is why the shot looks so far back on this side. He made a great shot under alot of pressure....very proud of him!
