Thats a great safari setup for sure! Great caliber too. By buffalo I assume you mean Nyati? Have you done Africa before?

That is absolutely spot on. Every feature is perfect for that caliber and you couldn't pick a better action. I'm a huge 416 fan and love their versatility. Enjoy. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Ken,
My current plans are to get over there and do all that is required to obtain my possession and acquisition license, same as I did when we moved to Canada. Once the license is in hand I will haul the 416 and a couple of others over as I do plan on a NT buffalo hunt as well as a New Zealand tahr hunt. Nice buffs by the way.

Boxhead, That's an awesome rifle done right, with form following function. I particularlyblike that Mcmillan stock. Classy pebbling and virtually indestructible. A beautiful project that was done right and will only get more beautiful with use. Russ
Mr. O'Neill, Please don't bait us with those pics and then leave us hanging. Stories, please! Russ

Skook, I don't really want to pirate Boxhead's thread too much, but here's a brief synopsis: The top cape buffalo was shot in October of 1997 in Tanzania just across the dry Ruaha River from the Ruaha National Park, where Ruark hunted with Selby in the '50's. We stalked the herd of about 300 or more for 6 1/2 hours. They'd wind us and run off, splintering into several groups each time. We ended up with a remnant herd of about 65 and this was the largest we saw in that group. I shot him at 55 yds. He ran about 100 yards and fell dead. The second buffalo shown was shot about a week later in the "Zanzibar" highlands of Tanzania from a herd of perhaps 75-100, also at about 55 yds. He ran 50 yds. into the long grass shown in the photo, cut a circle, and waited in ambush for us, watching his back trail. He died before we got to him. The 3rd photo shows a bull hippo that was shot in Tanzania at about 85 yds. All these were 1 shot kills, using a Rem. Custom Shop .416 Rem Mag, carrying a 4X Leupold, with 400 gr. Hornady softs at 2265 fps on the buff and a 400 gr. Horn. solid on the hippo. The last photo shows a large bodied Australian buff shot in 2000 at about 50 yds. with the same rifle.
I've also used this rifle on other game, as well as a stainless/synthetic (McMillan, like Boxhead's, but gray) Winchester Mdl. 70 .416 Rem. for a couple of Brown bear. Both of these rifles have been sold to friends since then, but as far as I'm concerned, .416's RULE!
