I have a new Ruger single action that has a very tight fitting front cylinder bearing surface.Would it work to lightly cover the bearing surface with a very fine cutting compound and polish fit the surfaces?

I'll see if that loosens things up a bit!

CYLINDER BIND * Visual: check the cylinder face and barrel face for rubbing as cylinder rotates. * Tactile: a) slowly spin-check rotation, b) cock hammer.
If cylinder spins freely by hand, yet binds when thumb-cocked, Cylinder ENDSHAKE exceeds the CYLINDER-BARREL GAP.
Or, there is a high spot on the cylinder face. Or, the cylinder axis and cylinder face are less than dead square.
You MUST determine the cause before removing metal!
Begin the above checks with CLEAN revolver. please let us know what you find. David Bradshaw

And, as COR advises, lubrication is golden.
I know there are people say lubrication only attracts dirt and cannot possible cushion parts against shock.
My experience suggests otherwise. My guns like chassis grease, motor oil, especially synthetic in the cold, and automatic transmission fluid. And, yes, stainless steel likes Anti-Seize Compound, especially on the cylinder hub. David Bradshaw

Thank you David! I did find a small high spot on the frame where the cylinder bearing surface and frame meet.Everything else is great and I will work on the high spot when I get over the flu!Right now I am too sick to do anything I am afraid without damaging something.

We used to lube our Fast Draw revolvers with the motor oil addative whos name I forget. Used to have TV commercials where they would dip the tip of a screwdriver in it and then try to hold it by pinching the blade tip between 2 fingers, couldn't do it. It was very good stuff, very slick and stayed where yo put it.
