Anybody know anything about an Old time gunsmith named George Matthews of Downey California?
I believe he's passed on now.

The last I heard was he had died, the sons continued the business for awhile & then my brother told me that Mathews & sons had gone out of business, whether or not that's true or not I can't verify it's accurate,my brother screws up a lot.

Vintage Guns & Ammo Annuals used to have a section on custom handguns. Mathews made many very neat custon DA revolvers. Custom hammers, full length ribs, custom combat grips. They were "state of the art" for the 60s & 70s.

Wiley Clapp wrote about him, and printed a picture of him as well as some of the custom work he did on double action revolvers.
