Just for my curious-ment....would the mid-frame Blackhawk 45 convertible be strong enough to take a 5 shot 460 Rowland conversion? And if so, would you have to ditch the 6 shot cylinders? I'm not sure whether the timing would change to turn the cylinder the correct number of degrees although I would think that would be a function of the ratchet on the cylinder?

The 45 Colt can already do anything the Rowland can do in the same size frame.

I believe the 460 rowland operates around 40000 psi. The most optimistic data I've seen published for the midframe 6 shot 45 colt is 22000 psi. Not sure about 5 shot conversions.

There is no real substitute for cubic inches....

The mid-frame, I've already been strongly advised, will not handle the "Ruger only" loads. I was guessing that was the cylinder strength. I don't have one yet, just pre pre-thinking the possibilities. But if it was a 5 shot cylinder, seems like it would be less stress on the gun with the .45 Colt operating at less pressures than the Rowland?

From the man himself...what a quick response, just emailed him today. I think the Rowland operates at 40,000. "Dear Sir: Thanks for your inquiry. Without knowing the maximum allowable operating pressures of the .460 Rowland, I cannot say for sure our 5-shot cylinders on the medium-frame guns will be safe. They are safe for the +P+ "Ruger Blackhawk Only' and .44 Magnum factory ammo. Assuming the .460 doesn't operate at much more than 30K--35K CUPS, I would imagine our guns would be fine. Once converted, the guns will not function with factory cylinders. Hope this will help; thanks for your interest. Sincerely yours, Hamilton S. Bowen Bowen Classic Arms Corp."
