Three years ago, my daughter said she wanted to take the hunter safety course and hunt with me. We took the course and last year she only saw one deer in the woods. This year was a repeat of last. three days of hunting and not a deer seen. I get round bales for the horses about 30 minutes from my house. The farmers are big hunters so we always talk about hunting. I mentioned our lack of sightings and he said to bring her over to the farm. I see 10 to 30 deer a night.
We went over today at noon and he took us out to a stand. finally started seeing deer and a nice spike just got too close.
One shot, 100 yards, bang flop, DRT. I now have one excited daughter that is hooked on hunting for life. Couldn't ask for a better hunting partner. We are definitely excited and while waiting for the farmer to pick us up in his truck, we got to sit on the hillside and watch a phenomenal sunset.
Perfect ending to a perfect day.
We thanked the farmer and he said he loves to get kids into hunting. (Believe it or not, the farmer is in his late 20's) We hunt in shotgun country, but the next county over is rifle. He even let her borrow his rifle so she could reach out further than a shotgun.
