I have a couple of Ruger No.1s but not a No. 3.
What's the difference in the action and hardware?

Lever, wood, fit. The No. 3 is like a plain jane version of the No. 1

#3's are plain jane, but very handy lil huntin guns. My #3 375Win is lighter than a '94 levergun or Marlin or 99 Savage. The 375W is a great deer cartridge and works well on elk at closer ranges. Stay away from the 45/70 #3 however...they hurt !!!

I haven't seen but maybe 6 No.3's but ALL of them have been straight grip stocks unlike the pistol grip type of the No.1. Rather plain Jane/vanilla rifles. Nonetheless they have a loyal following.
