I will admit that four years ago I was ignorant that such a thing even existed. Due to the education afforded me by Mr. Taffin's writing and the shared knowledge of the members of this Forum, I know a little more now than then. Shooting my S&W 24 44 Special on the fourth along with my USFA 45 Colt, which was making one large hole in my target, I says to myself " You really need a single action 44 special" So I walk into Boise Gun Co. on Tuesday and what is sitting in the case but.... I never expected to own a thing like this. Pre-War, Black Powder Frame, aged Tru Ivory grips. This one is an heirloom. When it passes to my Son or Grandsons the signed copies of Sixguns & The Book of the 44 will go with it. It's never going to get one of my special names...only initials J.T. Every time I hold it or shoot it I'll be thinking of him.

Definitely heirloom material. I assume looking that clean it's been refinished? Either way, that's a really nice find. -Lee www.singeactions.com

No Lee this is a USFA not a Colt. It was pre-owned but I doubt it has ever been fired. I did learn something taking Photos however...and this could be BIG! If you wanted to get big bucks for an old Ruger, just take the pic under a plum tree in the evening!

It's a nice sixgun none the less, you planning a different set of grips, I hear you can do one piece jobs on those USFA guns.

Oopps....I took the "pre-war" part too literally. Regardless, that's a beautiful single-action and something I'm sure your son (and grandsons) will enjoy for decades to come. -Lee www.singleactions.com

As a shooter it's nicer than a Colt. I love my USFA 44 spl although I did put Colt eagle grips on it because you cant beat that grip.

Oopps....I took the "pre-war" part too literally. So did I. I was all ready to say how astonished I am that it's in such great shape! Ok, so this makes more sense...still, it's a real beauty. Congrats on your score!

...But the frame finish is all "splotchy"... I'll take it off your hands cheap... Just kidding. Excellent revolver. That is indeed one to be proud of.

Congrats... that is definitely one to be proud of. I don't know if I'd go messing with the grips. I cannot say that I have ever seen a better fitted pair... they look perfect!

Thats actually as good a picture of Tru-Ivory grips as Ive seen. I've heard theyre great, but have never seen a decent photo of them. I like them, will have to get a pair.
Excellent revolver.

Chutch, I know how you feel. USFA's are great. I have wondered about the Tru Ivory for some time. How does it loof/feel/compare to real ivory? Real ivory has a character all it's own, and is priced accordingly. I have never seen Tru Ivory in as good a photos as these. I don't think that I could tell the difference.

Thanks for the compliments on the sixgun and the pics. Part of the reason the grips look as good in the photo as they do in person is the color of the light. The backround wood compliments the color of the grips. That wood is some left over cedar from my fence project. They have been plained and I am going to use them to build a pistol rack for my safe.
