I braved the weather and went to the range this morning. I have had this 10/22 sitting in the box for a few years and finally put a scope on it (borrowed from the 338-06). The scope is a 4x12 Fujinon. OK scope, but not a Leupold. I only shot some bulk $15/500 Peters 40 grain high velocity stuff (and 6 rounds of CCI Stingers), and I didn't expect much from it (or the gun) as far as accuracy goes. I got the scope dialed in an inch high at 25 yards with 2-3 inch groups. Kind of what I expected. So I moved the targets back to 50 yards. Wow, big surprise. I put 10 rounds in about an inch. I took a pic with the cell phone with my pinky next to the group. My pinky is about 1-1/4" long from the first joint up. The groups are a bit higher at 50 yards than 25 yards but I was very pleased. I was also surprised that the lighter, faster stingers printed higher than the slower, heavier 40 grain Peters ammo... about 4-5" higher. Anyway, I had fun this morning with the little 10/22:

Should your 10-shot, 50 yard group from your 10/22 turn out representative, you have a KEEPER factory 10/22.
As with other Rugers, accuracy can vary dramatically. Question: is yours a Ruger hammer forged barrel? Or, is it an older button barrel from George Wilson, which for decades supplied many Ruger barrels? David Bradshaw

This is a newer gun. I think I bought it about 2 years ago and just now got around to shooting it. Oh, I should mention that I took the 10/22 with me for a couple Boy Scouts to shoot this past Saturday. We were shooting gallon water jugs at 100 yards with as 30-06, and I asked if they wanted to try shooting the 10/22 at that distance. They looked at me like I was kidding so I just said, "you'd be surprised at what you can hit at distance unless you try it." Well, we were hitting them consistently at that distance, although sometimes you had to look closely to see the little holes leaking. As the water drained from the water jugs I told them to shoot for the bottom of the jugs and they did, and they hit them. It made a few of the jugs dance when the water level was low enough. Fun times!
