Monterey, Tenn-- Anyone hunted the place before? I've signed up for Reeder's Hangun Hunt Challenge and was curious. It's supposed to 15,000 acres '+' in the foothills of the Cumberlines. Not going to make Colo for elk this year so I thought I'd give this a whirl. Information appreciated.

I don't know the place, but I know the area. Beautiful country and really rugged. Stay on the ridges and the walking isn't bad. Bale off into the draws and you'll feel some leg burn!

I hunted there 19 or 20 years ago for mouflon. It is a preserve, but I had a good hunt during that one visit. Part of it is rugged terrain for sure, and I was in very good shape back in those days! I understand he's acquired more land since I hunted there, but it may not all be contiguous. I've toyed with the idea of going later this month too, but it falls over my oldest daughter's birthday, so I haven't signed up (yet). Borrow whatever guns (and ammo) AxeHandle brings, and drop by my place on the way home, and we'll shoot the dust off 'em!

Yep we make a pilgrimage there for hogs. Fun place to hunt. I just bumped my hog post back to the top on the double action forum about our trip when I killed a big charging hog with a charter target bulldog. reflex264

Thanks for the feedback. Having never hunted a preserve/ranch, I wasn't sure what to expect. Ken, as I go right by Clarksville on the way out, I thought about picking up TR. He has a certain way of coming up with some real cool shooters, but I wouldn't want to havemyself 'black balled' from future hunts.

Made the trip out to the Wilderness Hunting Lodge. Meet some good folks, swapped a few lies, ate too much, and walked a lot of country. Had my mind on putting a cow elk in the cooler for a trip back to Oklahoma and my freezer, but it didn't happen. Saw bull elk, fallow deer, water buff, sika deer and some ugly goats, but no cow elk. Did make a 60yd running shot on what has to be the ugliest deer creature I ever saw. Shot at 60yds, running with my Polaroid i534, 3X super zoom:
