On more'n one forum lately, been some threads that taper off into darkness. Am not sure why. With hunting seasons looming, things should be quite upbeat. After a big, deep breath, I'd like to change course, and mention a blessing or two. I have a good job, wonder how long it'll last, don't we all. I live in what is still a good nation, though sliding downhill. My wife ? My bright spot, I live to see her smile, hear her laugh. I'm into my 4th bird dog, the current one is a young Lab, more service dog than bird dog, due to my wife's health issues. I have more Ruger's, than hands, a good thing, yes ? You ? Com'n, spill. stevemb

Everything is better since I met my wife. Everything: work, play, family life, church, all of it. I sold a beloved 45 Colt AccuSport to get her a ring. I wasn't even working when we met. That AccuSport has been replaced 3 times over and I have since moved on to bigger and better things.
Yep. I'm blessed.

I agree. My business is goin OK. My wife is doing better and working, already got a raise and promotion. I have some good friends, some good guns, and a place to enjoy them both. I have more material stuff than I need and the Lord has blessed me with more than I deserve. The future looks bright as long as I follow Him and dont wander off on my own...life is good.

I think you've helped me see why I'm probably not liked Steve. Who wants to be around somebody that has a pious and self righteous attitude all the time. I still believe what I believe but just because I may be right don't mean everybody else is wrong. Thank you for helping me see the brighter side and holding me accountable for what's right in life as well as wrong.

Life can always be better or worse but...I'm retired and the wife of nearly 40 years is still working, probably a good thing in more ways than one! One kid out of the house, one still here, my boy, now a sophmore in HS. Got a few guns, an older F250, a Navy whaleboat, a house and its all paid for! Some health issues hopefully mostly minor to deal with soon, try to get to the range 3-4 times a month. I feel its a better than even chance we #%$*can Obama in November so things are looking up!

Steve, as this is your thread (dont wanta be a hijacker!), yes its a 1980 Navy fiberglass hulled whaleboat that was standard for many years as shore boats etc., 26' long, double ended, 25 hp diesel. Mine has a cabin put on in the 90's by the previous owner in LA. He trucked it up to my area in WA state where it sat for nearly 10 years till I bought it last fall. I added some interior to it and my boy and I mostly use in the San Juan Islands of WA state which are premium cruising grounds. Having sat so long so things have needed repair or replace but thats to be expected. Always wanted one of these and finally got one. Neat little boats. Mine was built in Canada by Mason Boat Co., one of only 53 built there. It was on a Navy guided missle destroyer named the Benjamin Stoddert, nicknamed Benny Sweat by those who served on her and she sank under tow to the scrap yard in the 90's.

If you like happy endings...
I was diagnosed with terminal metastatic lung cancer as well as salivary gland cancer in March of this year.
After a couple of lung biopsies and a post-op minor stroke, it was decided that the original diagnosis was in error and that I had several encapsulated fungi nodules in my lungs...perfectly harmless.
A rather extensive bit of robotic tongue surgery and removal of malignant tumors from the lymph nodes on both sides of my neck/throat area, along with 33 radiation treatments have me in full-fledged recovery mode.
My surgeons, radiologist and oncologists believe that I should live out the remainder of a normal lifespan(I am about 6 weeks shy of my 58th birthday).
I have since returned to work about 6 weeks ago, have dispensed with a necessary feeding tube and resumed a completely normal diet.
My family and I are truly blessed...we truly believe that faith in God and prayer are what saw us through this ordeal.
Miracles do happen...I am living proof.

That's great news 375! Thanks for sharing that. I wish you many more years with your family! Thanks... My main reason for sharing my story is that hopefully it will inspire somebody to fight for their life and not give up. Even a diagnosis of a terminal disease is not necessarily a death sentence. A positive attitude and determination to win can pay enormous dividends.

Very cool, sorry about the back to work part, LOL ! stevemb It isn't as bad as it could be. They pay me fairly well and generally are tolerant of my more bizarre antics (let's just say that I was "blessed" with an abundance of personality...and no particular way of controlling it). As a female friend has pointed out on more than one occasion, I do tend to bring the party with me.

Start a new job in the morning after being unemployed for 8 months. Praise the Lord! Excellent news, redfoxx! Excellent! I pray the "fit" is good and that the work is rewarding. I've had a few bumps in the road careerwise and it can be hard on a man's heart, for sure.
