Micarta that is..... This is my version of the best gun Ruger ever made (from a hunters perspective) Besides the grips, base pin and a trip to "cylindersmith" to open the throats up to .4525 it is stock. It is a great shooter and now my favorite Ruger. Newest Leather by www.alaskaleatherworks.com/ I love the extra long strap. Those are LBT 300gr LFN PB at about 1150fps. It will leave a mark. Here's one that Gary Reeder did a few things to. This SBH was a great shooter out of the box and the work Gary did on it made it a great companion. His Gunfighter grip and Micarta panels (superbly fitted) along with an action job and FA style sights completed the gun for me. He also did his "vapor honed" finish on it.

that finish on the SBH is nice, it contrasts nicely with the black grips
EDIT: COR, thanks for the info on the grip frame. I see you started your reply before I edited my post.

That is a steel SBH frame with rounded trigger guard but he can do it to a dragoon style too. It is very similar to what you now see on some FA revolvers. It is basically a rounding of the heel of the frame and he fits his grips with a slimmer profile. I think it helps with the recoil but I don't load real heavy. He does the same treatment on a Bisley frame and that is IMHO, the best going for handling recoil. I don't know if he can do it on aluminum or not but I have seen one that Andy Horvath did and it was very similar. I really like it but I am not a recoil addict like some. I appreciate a LBT260WFN at about 1200fps and if I am feeling really sassy I will shoot some 240XTP's at about 1350. It's less than 100 bucks (plus the price of custom grips if you like)on your frame and he has a relatively quick turnaround on small projects.

Those both look great. I need to try out a brass dot front sight on something sometime, they look like they'd work well.

Hmmmm....Are you positive those black grips are Micarta? Maybe it's just me but they sure look shiny and more like buffalo horn to me. Is there any light streaks in them or is it just a trick of the lighting?

I know this Cary...The invoice said black micarta. Not being any type of expert on such things I could have easily been had. It's probably just a lighting thing because these are a nice deep black thoughout with no variation. I have a set of the buffalo horn you mention and they have the brown and tan variation you speak of. I ordered the micarta when I had the GF grip done. I guess c.r. changed his mind about needing that extra info on that grip design...

I have become a big fan of white on stainless and the leather for it is very nice. Also like the FA sight on the SBH.

I bet they look much different in person...

Black and White, White and black... I thought I had a preference.... Stainless guns, Blue guns... One would expect a rationale mind to have a preference... I obviously do NOT.... Looked at my stuff and realized that it is the shape and fit of the grip than the material or even color.... White, Black, Walnut, mesquite, Amboyna.... My poor obviously uneducated hand can't tell the difference.... Now slap some quality rubber on those suckers and I can pick them out in the dark! ;D
