Almost constantly I read threads where the posters, and those who agree with him, want to put Bisley hammers on this Ruger or that FA or the other brand of gun.
What is it about the Bisley hammer that makes all you guys like it?
I suppose if if I say my feelings about them it will color your answers so I won't. I just wanna know why they tickle your fancies so.

Easier to grasp and it does look better. I actually prefer the SBH hammer.

I am with you, I think, on this Joe. I have two Bisleys and the hammer is fine on them. But a BH, I think it is anything but aesthetic. The classic lines I like best.

I love the Bisley hammer because it is so cool looking but (for me) is slightly awkward to cock and feels as though it could slip out from under my thumb.
The SBH & BH are a little easier and more secure for me to use.
Arthritis in my thumb probably has something to do with this.

everybody has a BH with a BH hammer.
for me it is mainly cosmetics. I dont care for the looks of the std BH spur.

I have pretty small hands, can barely palm a softball, and very short fingers. My thumb is able to reach the bisley hammer MUCH easier than the BH hammer. Whle the SBH may be almost as low, I just like the looks of the bisley better of the two. Thank goodness for David Clements! Every Ruger I own wears a bisley hammer. ;D

With the exception of Shakey and kings6 it's just cosmetic preference. That's pretty much as I anticipated. Personally, I don't like either the looks or feel of the Bisley hammers on regular single actions. They are OK on the Bisleys where they came from though. I never thought I had big hands, but recently I've taken some pics that make me think my hands may be bigger than or at the large end of normal. My hands pretty much swallow the standard SA grips. With the position of my thumb the standard hammer is just fine. Any lower and it would get in my way.

Well on an actual Bisley the hammer needs to be lowered to get to it. I too prefer the bisley hammer on BH's because its lower....easier to cock.

I'll fess up to it being merely cosmetic to me... These hands of mine don't need a bent hammer so that my thumbs will reach. Kind of like a MR-3DB on a high polish SBH with CLC Claro Walnut.... A steel MR-3 and a couple of slabs of Poplar on a bead blasted SBH would function as well... I have a tender spot for a SBH hammer too... Also purely cosmetic...

Much less shifting of my grip to make the sixgun ready to launch again. The looks are a bonus but I'm a strong believer in FFF - Form Follows Function. I still like the looks of the standard BH/SBH hammer though. My only complaint about my Bisley hammers is that the serrations aren't terribly secure. I would like to have them checkered ala my S&W DAs.
