45Man, you don't get to see them talk down to, insult other members. As I said, the depth of knowledge here is such that I can do without 2-3. Call'em the way you see them. Let others do too, no name calling or insults please.

Here's my new yard chariot. Spent a great deal of the day mowing my yard which had gotten out of hand. I couldn't find anyone who wanted to mow it. I don't know about you but as much as I like this mower I look at it (and anything like it) and think....that could have been a really good custom. Or two pretty good customs. Or quite a few stock guns. I doubt I'm the only one. I’ve got several nice Kimber Super Americas in this little guy’s vet bills. Another nice holster today.

I don't think my mowed rows would be very straight with scenery like that around.

Mine decided he wants a classic CJ7. They didn't cost that much new! I tried to talk my son into a TJ. But he wasn't a car. Can't even get him to look at a truck. Un requested advice from a dad on the other side. I went thru this in the early 90's so cars were different, but the concept is the same especially for 16 year old boys. Go with the premise that the first car, and maybe the second, is disposable. It will get killed thru rough driving or hopefully not a crash. So get something cheap you will not be forced to sink bucks into when they do kill it. Something you can scrap and move on. Car seems it only has less then 10,000 miles left in it? perfect, It probably won't get there anyway. Second, who cares what they want, he needs dependable transportation not an image maker. If the car is COOL all their friends will want him to be the driver. Good sounds or AC not a requirement for the same reason. And above all NOTHING FAST! Or even remotely fast. Look for something not requiring much maintenance because it probably will not get it. Something tough enough to handle some minor fender benders and keep running because it probably will get them and you don't want to HAVE to fix them. In my day the answer was big ole 4 door American sedans that nobody else wanted. Gas milage was not a priority because I did not want him racking up high miles. just getting to his job and back. Yeah, your son is bright and dependable, so was mine. But trust me, 16-year-old boy brains disappear the second they get behind the wheel unsupervised or get out with their friends. On your part, keep your tow chain handy and be ready for calls at 10;30 at night. I could tell you about a few of those, but you will get your own.

My first car was a 1970 monte carlo SS 454. Most of us had muscle cars as first cars back then. They were just used cars. We were raised to be responsible and aware back then. No cell phone or any of the other crap that distracts drivers now days. Heck we had to even learn to use a clutch and shift our own gears.
That old monte carlo was mint and stayed that way. So did all my friends mustangs, Camaros, novas, etc..

My first car was a 1969 elcamino SS396. I loved that car and was always trying to make it faster. Most of the guys in my class in high school had 60's muscle cars too, they were just older used cars and were plentiful. It looked like a car show in our high school parking lot every day. Everyone took good care of the and I do not remember anyone getting into an accident, all were responsible farm kids.
I tried to buy a 69 Camaro later the summer after I graduated high school and the insurance company would not insure me in it, called it a sports car. Our agent was a friend of my dad's and he was telling me what a favor they were doing for me by not insuring me in that car. They had no idea apparently that I pushing over 450hp in my elcamino, racing it regularly on the strip and street. The Camaro was going to be my daily as it was as stock as the day it left the factory and in comparison was gutless. Ended up passing on the Camaro and still regret it.

I cannot imagine asking my parents for what I WANT. Where did that come from ? The gas crunch came and Dad couldn't trade in the '66 440 Coronet with the 383 and tow package. Bad tranny, needed tires and brakes, you get the idea. Dropped into my lap, and I said THANK YOU. It was my truck, got studded snow re-caps and had tire chains. Tow package got me bigger battery, alternator, cooling, and lower gears and posi.. Was not date friendly, backseat smelled of muskrats, LOL.

In 1980 I only needed permission to buy what I wanted, which was a Jeep. Mom Would not allow it, so my first was a 65 ElCamino 396ci. Drove it for 8-9 months and on a rainy day put it in a slow speed skid and tagged a telephone pole while entering a grocery store parking lot. Sold it to a guy down the block and then mom said ok to the Jeep. I still have that Jeep. At no time did my parents ever “give” me a car, and I am glad for it. It allowed me to appreciate what I bought and take care of it, and to afford the best that I could.

Stopped in to pick up my custom hat today. The hatter has a lot of really cool heads from around the world as well as other artifacts. This is a grizzly print cast from a bear in Yellowstone Park. You can guess whether I have small hands or that print is just really big.

Sitting in the back deck watching sunrise and listening to doves calling and hens clucking. Hummers are fighting over the feeder and a mule ride is on tap later this morning. After that is back to the shop to start finishing a set of grips and contemplate how to set up for a more efficient work flow for grips versus furniture construction. May need to list some BIG clamps for sale!
