Using an NOE mould casting a clone of the Lyman 454424 (weighs 250 grs in my alloy) ahead of 7.0 grs of Unique chronographs at 900+ fps. Here is a photo of the ammo: ![](http://i269.photobucket.com/albums/jj80/Dale53/4DalesPistolsRevolversSelects-3336.jpg) It is an excellent field load. I would be reluctant to shoot this in any .45 ACP/Auto Rim revolver made before 1950. The 1917's, as an example, have proven to have rather "tender" cylinders. Dale53

Greg, tell the guys which gun you are loading for. The 7.0 grain load was a shade too hot for my 325PD and hotter than I would run in a 1917.

2 Dogs what are you shooting in yours?
Thanks!

I am currently shooting 6.5 of Unique, 7.0 grains of Unique, and 5.5 WW231 on various bullets. I have also shot quite a bit of Federal Hardball as well. My Mtn Gun is pretty accurate, very tight throats, and tighter than usual bore. Best groups have been with H&G 68 so far but I am working with Miha's 200 grain HP, and have tried Mihas maw HP as well as Keiths 454424 that come to mind. I also just got in a Miha 454640 I am going to try as well. I have the Ohaus bullet for the AR by Miha on order, so we will see where we end up. Meanwhile, its all good fun.

Elmer Keith Load. Unique behind a 250 gr. SWC. Got a couple of original Lyman molds for the Keith 240 SWC, have not started to cast bullets yet. Shooting my loads out of a Thunder Ranch Mod.22 and a Smith Mountain Gun/Springfield Armory Commemorative. Want to try to take a doe with this load if I get the chance this year.

I certainly hope you do get your chance and make a clean shot when you do. Makes for a better story and of course, we will require some pics....

My 25-2 has large throats and it loves a Lyman 454424 sized .454" over 6.5 gr Unique. I am going to try some of the Miha 200gr HPs sized .454" over 7.0 gr of unique when I get around to loading them. The brass is ready to go just need to find my Shellholder. I know it is in my reloading room somewhere.

I use a Miha 454640 over 6 grains of Unigue and a 454424 over 7 grains of unigue. I get excellent results with both.

I load 200 grain bullets, so this may not apply to the heavier ones (I guess a bit less powder would work), my load for 45 ACP & Auto Rim is 4.5 grains of Alliant Promo. Alliant Promo is a powder for us cheapskates, as it is sold in 8 pound cannisters for $80-87 from Powder Valley and similar websites. The burning characteristics are nearly identical to Red Dot, which is usually $20+ a pound around my neck o' the woods. So therefore, my powder costs are 1/2 of normal. In thousands of rounds using Red Dot data to load Promo, I have never had a problem.
