Last month Ken Oneill dropped in for a few days of chuck hunting & ended up with somewhere around 32 in 2 mornings, he took 19 from one spot & never moved.
My buddy Myron (79 yrs young) drove up from Utah & we really lit them up, he got 26 from the very same spot Ken did a month earlier, he couldn't whack them fast enough. The farmers in the area love us, we save a lot of barley & alfalfa, the big ones this time of year are just like a mowing machine. They are so big right now they look deformed, they have huge bodies & small heads, my wife made a rude comparison ;D At the end of 3 partial days we had 49 chucks & 1 crow, I couldn't resist, he was trying to eat one of my dead chucks.
I also spotted some huge trout in the river, at first I thought they were carp but finally seen them up close & they were real whoppers 5-6 lb rainbows, seen one dead one that was even bigger, if I can keep it quiet from the utahn's I'll have some real pole benders on the hook next week, yippee!
This old chuck is in the 20 lb range, probably Boone & Crockett!
A very nice stretch of the river (sorry no name)
Some very unlucky chucks that collided with my 223 Imp. XP100
Here's Myron with some we gathered up on day two.
I'm lined up, ready to whack another barley muncher. Good stool to sit on, rangefinder, soft drink, good counter top for a bench & my nasty little 223 Imp.
Some of the thousands of acres of barley fields in between the lava reefs.
This is the crow that dropped in for some "ground chuck" 150 yds & a 50 gr Nosler gave him blood poisioning! ;D
Finished with 49 chucks, great time!
