It is already drilled and tapped for a side mount receiver sight. I would look for an older steel Lyman, Pacific, or Redfield peep and leave those beautiful wavy lines ALONE!

Good call--I just bought a vintage steel Lyman 66LA off ebay looks like New old stock. Should look good on it.

The rifle you have seems to be very well cared for by the previous owner and used some for hunting a very nice rifle. Good to see that you have found a nice sight.
I have in the past played with some modifications, blue etc. and now I prefer a gun that is original and has some character. Something that has some of the blue worn off showing that it has been used well by someone that cared for the gun.
On the lever guns that means less blue or completely light brown where your hand fits around the rifle for balance when you are carrying it. A little around the muzzle and the top of the hammer and around the grip. Not many people shoot a gun a lot, most of the time it is carrying that puts wear on them.

Love finding new old stock Looks pretty good on the old girl. My daughter says "All I have to do is put the gold ball on the shoulder?--That's easy Dad" She has a lot to live up to after last year because in her first five minutes of deer hunting he showed up.
