I had one in 30-06. It was an older model with out the tang safety. Nice rifle. Very smooth action. Smoothest levergun I have handled. I had no complaints. I understand why roosevelt took them to Africa. I would still have it but I traded it for a third model hand ejector in 44 cal sold by a Texas pawn shop.

The '95 never did anything for me. It just lost the sleek lever gun carry and handling of previous models. Give me an '86 or '71 over the '95 any day. In fact, I am now playing with a Browning M71 and it is a fine piece. I have no doubt the Browning/Win '95 is not equally fine but the platform just misses it for me.

yes, I liked it for a while, the lever loop is too small for my dainty little paws. Other than that it is a fun rifle and cartridge. Shot cast only, killed the biggest elk of my life with it. Killed a lot of buffalo also with a 310 grain gas check bullet at 2250. The RCBS 350 sized to ,414 and ran at 2260 is a bit better killer. I put XS sights on it, trigger was good. I also have a 416/348 IMP on a Browning 71 with a bigger lever so no tears when I sild the 1895.

I had an original some years ago in .30-40 and liked it well enough. I dont remember being bothered by the lever but my hands were a little less chunky then too. I love the .405 round and had a No.1 so chambered for a while and still have some components left over and need something to shoot them in. Thanks!!

I have one of 1990s manufacture, the deluxe model. Searched for a year to find one that was the same price as a grade 1. The factory Hornady loads are weak, I plan to load for mine. The Winchester/Miroki are very well made, I don't care for the tang safety and rebounding hammer, but that was the only way to get a .405 without going to a custom 1895, I wanted to keep my purchase at around $1k, so the tang safety sacrifice had to be made. Yesterday was "lever day" at my "range" (piece of desert I can shoot out to 1,000 yards with no prob, and no one is ever around). Here is what I brought to shoot (top to bottom)" Winchester 53 takedown in .25-20; Browning/Miroki 92 in .44 mag; Win 94 "Legenday Frontiersman" in .38-55; 1905 vintage Winchester 1895 in .35 WCF; and the Winchester/Miroki 1895 hi grade .405: Here is a compare of old and new 1895s: And the compare of the .35 WCF and .405 WCF cartridges:

Now that is a bevy of beauties! The .35 Win is another that has always interested me but never had one. I see you added a pad to the .405. I assume it kicked pretty good without it? LOL!

No, the 405 does not kick bad, that pad was on it when I bought it. If it didn't have one, I wouldn't put one on it.

Oh OK. I had the No 1 .405 for a while and hossed it up quite a bit and shot 400 gr bullets in it to good effect. Running those over 2000 fps tended to back it up a bit I can tell you. Shot like a houseafire though! Of course the No.1 has a pretty skimpy pad to be sure.

I forgot to mention that my 1905 vintage .35 WCF is alot more muzzle heavy than the newer .405. I don't know why that is, perhaps a fatter barrel on the older one...and it is a smaller caliber...

If all goes well I should have one of these tomorrow when I meet up with a local gent at the gun show. Blued, checkered grade 1 model with ammo, dies, brass and some bullets, LNIB. Also picking up a new Ruger TALO 3.75" .44 SBH as well from my dealer so should be a fun day!
