I was wondering if anybody knowa the dealer price on a model 97? I was wanting to get my buddy to order one and hope to not have to pay retail for it. I plan to pay him for ordering it. Thanks all.

Doubt he can order from FA directly as they have special dealer requirements and have a "Preferred Dealers" list. If you shop around with known FA dealers it is not difficult to get 20% off retail but expect a 5-6 month wait for the revolver to be built.

razor,
I am a FA authorized dealer and can order direct from them. It's a bit difficult to quote you a price without knowing a bit more on what you want...premier vs field, adj vs fixed sights, other options, etc...
If you're interested in a quote, drop me an email with your requirements and I can give you a quote. Thunderjet is correct, their leadtimes are currently ~4-5 months.

Bigbore45colt,
Do they have a list of guns "in stock" that are ready to ship? Or is all of their stock always allocated? If someone is not real particular about the options they want (and there really aren't that many on a 97, since it's already a Premier Grade gun), it might be good to see if they already have something close to what they want close to or ready to ship.

hammerdown77,
You are correct that there aren't too many major options available on the 97. However, there are actually still a fair number of options that they do offer on the 97s: barrel length, octagonal vs round barrel, fixed vs adjustable sights, fluted vs unfluted cylinder, round butt, extra cylinders, action job, trigger over travel, matte finish, special serial numbers, etc...
They sometimes have guns in stock but that is usually if an order is cancelled. I happened to call them yesterday about another order and asked them what they had in stock as I've got a hankerin' for another 97 45 Colt (with a longer barrel as my current one has a 3" bbl) and their answer was "absolutely nothing"...it seems that everything they are making is going out the door!
So, unless you find something already in stock at a dealer, it's pretty much a make-to-order proposition, unfortunately. I also asked them about their current lead times and they confirmed the 5 month number...
Hope this helps,

Well, that's a lot more options than I thought! I'm still trying to decide between a 44 Spl and a 41 mag. Need to shoot some of Axe's first to help me decide.

FA? FA? Now who let that cat out of the bag about me having a few FAs?

Something else that may factor in is that on July 1st. FA had a price increase and retail on the Model 97 is now $1995,up from $1891, so you may do OK by finding one at a stocking dealer that they purchased at the old price. I ordered a 97 on July 1 from my dealer and was quoted 20-25 weeks. This was my dealers first order with FA so they do take orders from small dealers but it may not be the same price as a stocking dealer. Another place to check for in-stock guns is Tin Cup Sports which is owned by FA founder Wayne Baker and his wife. I met both of them last year at the Tulsa gun show and he stated Tin Cup was the largest stocking distributor of FA. I think that is why the factory does not have in-stock guns, they go straight to Tin Cup if they are not special ordered but that is just my opinion. I checked his website this morning and there were quite a few listed but it was at the old prices so the website may not be updated.
