My 45 Colt/acp and my 357/38 FA 97s came back from FA yesterday. I had the 357 slicked up and had them make me a 38 special cylinder for it. My 45 got a complete check up along with a new barrel.
Both guns were sent to FA on or about June 17 or so. So, exactly out for one month. The test target that came back with the 45 was most impressive. The groups from a machine rest (6 of them no less) were from between 1/2 inch to a bit less than 3/4 of an inch at 25 yards. FA techs thoughtfully provided me with the load, 22.5 grains of H110 on a XTP bullet. Fortunately, I have a supply of XTPs on hand and for now will duplicate that load exactly. Some jacketed will smooth the new barrel out some anyhow.
The 38/357 particularly should be pretty dang cool to play with. Unlike many here, I have always been a 357 fan, and have shot a whole slew of smaller critters with the 357. I love the whap factor. I have a good supply of 158 grain WW hps on hand and will most likely set the gun up for that load. I also have a good pile of 38 special +p+ 110 grain ammunition that I aquired sometime back. This "Treasury" load pretty much sux for accuracy in about everything I have tried it in so far and if the FA wont shoot them I will know for sure they are just crap. But, on the other hand, if it does, what a bunny buster that one will be!!!
I also should be getting a box from Barranti here soon. I will update with pics when I do. I also heard back from Mellonhead, my Smiths should be here on Friday!!! If I dont watch out I might get behind on my shootin "chores"!! I also got me a pile of paper plates. Im gonna try Lee Martins target out for myself!! ;D
