I can't get my BFR to group, no matter what I do. More than likely its human error, but I'm trying to count out anything else. I had the barrel cut from 7.5" to 5.5" about 2 months after I got it, and I'm wondering if the gunsmith could have done something to it to make it not group. Before I had it cut, I shot it a little with a scope, and it grouped fine, but I don't have the scope anymore. It doesn't seem to be damaged at all. I want to slug the barrel to see if there are any restrictions. What else should I check?

I'd check the muzzle crown first.

Yep, seeing as how the barrel was cut, crown would be my first suspicion.

He called MR about the crown and cut it so it looks just like factory. Is there something specific with the crown I should look for?

The inside edge where the rifling ends should be sharp all the way around. There shouldn't be any dings. Could also be uneven, but it would be hard to tell that with the naked eye. Unlikely though, if your gunsmith half knows what he's doing.
What's the forcing cone look like?
What kind of accuracy were you able to achieve before you had it modified? Are you using the same loads? Bench resting it? Have you had someone else shoot it?

It seemed like he knew what he was doing. I don't think he messed with the forcing cone. The loads are different. Before I modified it, I was shooting BTB's 440's, and speer 400g hollowpoints. Now I've got Montana Bullet Works 410's and 440's, which are really 450's and about 418g. I've tried loads with SR4759, H110, 2400, HS-6, 231, and a few others. The last time I was shooting over 10g of 231 from my bench rest. At 20 yards the best group I could do is about 4". I was trying out a scope before I had it modified. More than likely, its just me.
I don't know anybody else around here that will shoot it more than once......Bunch of pansies..:-)

I notice you say it grouped fine with the scope before. How did it do with open sights before it was cut?

I don't remember. Thats part of the problem. I've never been good with open sights. Even on my marlin guide gun I struggled until I put a peep sight on it. I can't afford another scope right now.
