Hey All, newbie to this wonderful forum...
Just returned from putting the initial 120 rounds downrange through my new Ruger Vaquero Birdshead in 45 ACP. This revolver is a limited production run. barrel is 3.75", birdshead shaped grip, lowered hammer with a wide spur, blued finish.
The first cylinderful from 7 yds amazed me: the first two shots nearly hit the exact same spot...the bullseye!
the Ruger shot POA with 230gr FMJ, dead on for windage...
trigger was decent, although I have recently been shooting mostly Glocks and j-frames....so any trigger would feel better than those!
The fit and finish are outstanding, the birdshead grips really roll the recoil back into my hand... I fired slow fire, rapid fire, draw from holster, two handed and one handed...revolver pointed naturally and put good hits on target, even while moving laterally and backwards.
I'm carrying this revolver in a DM Bullard Bodyguard holster... this holster carries just behind your hip, with aggressive forward cant angle. conceals surprisingly well, even under tee shirt!
Running out of daylight today, but will post pics soon!

Mr Bullard makes some nice leather doesn't he? He lives in the same town I do, just a couple of miles from here.

I like mine a lot, too, as well as the kit from Rob Leahy at Simply Rugged: With a bit of crocodile:

Very Nice! I'm thinking 45ACP, a short barrel and the bird's head are a match made in heaven

Wow, Ken.... nice pics! nice leather! Really gotta work on my pic taking skills (actually, my equipment sucks) and get some posted here! This forum is full of super nice single action revolvers...and photographers! Thinking that this forum is going to cost me some money (easily led astray...)

Yeah, and that's not a bad gun to have, given your location and needs. My carry rig isn't as pretty as y'all's, but this is probably my favorite handgun nowadays:

Here is mine with a holster by Ray Cory at Lobogunleather.com I had to work with mine with a couple of files to get it shooting to POA from 18-20 yards with 230 grain HB. I think these are going to be a favorite gun for a whole lot of people. I'm working through some steel cased 230 grain ball I decided not to use in any of my 1911s. It is a tough job, but I think I'm up to it.

RedLevel, can you elaborate on the file work of which you mention? Was it confined to widening one side of the rear notch or narrowing the front blade or something else more voodoo than either? Thank ye!
Gents, those really are some fine looking pieces. I nevere would have considered one before this thread. Now, I'm going to have to find and handle one to see if it's something I can't live w/out.

max, I started by shooting three or four different brands of 230 grain ball from 15 yards. I quickly saw that all brands were shooting 4-5 inches low and 1-2 inches left. I carefully fired 12 shot strings with each brand to verify this. here is a sample picture of what Winchester White Box ammo did. All brands gave similar results. I didn't get to "adjust" the sights until several weeks later. It took about 50 rounds and a couple of hours. I would shoot three rounds and file a little. I used a couple of very close grained files, one flat and another three-cornered (for the rear notch) file like used sharpening a saw. I went very slowly. It is easy to remove metal, not so easy to put it back. I had to remove very little metal from the inside right rear notch. It took more off the front sight to get POI up where I wanted it. I quit when I got seven of the last nine shots on a 2" bull from about 18 yards. Actually, there is no voodoo to it. I think Ruger regulates these sights for the heavier 250 grain .45 Colt bullets that some of the guns are chambered for. Mine will be used exclusively with 230 grain hardball. Just go slow and make sure you are shooting from a good rest. While using a file is no time for guesswork. This was my last target.
