So, ive got a sporterized remington 1903A3, with a Williams receiver sight..one screw on the sight, goes from the top down, it sticks out of the top like 1/4 inch...what is the purpose of this screw? it goes down and touches the receiver.

Not sure but I assume you can bottom it out on the receiver after setting the vertical adjustment "knob" thereby "locking" said setting. The Redfield on this Mauser of mine is set up this way. Sorry I do not have a better closeup.

I called Williams, guy faxed me an instruction sheet. Anyhoo, he said that screw is just incase you remove it, it helps you re-zero it.

Appreciate the feedback. Makes perfect sense as my assembly removes from the base with a push of a button (yours is likely similar) so sliding it back on allows the bottoming of the screw and return to zero.
