I stumbled on to this gun a few weeks ago just before I headed out of the country for a short missions trip. From the first research I have done it shows it to be a first generation, 1915 gun, in 38 W.C.F. with what appears to be factory one piece ivory grips. Obviously there is little or no original finish on the gun but everything seems to lock up tight and it all appears to work. I revisiting JT's book on single actions sixguns and it reminds me of some of the pictures of Gordon Mart's older Colts. Have not decided yet what the long term plan is for this gun but still kind of neat to hold a true first generation SAA for the first time in my life. Who knows, I may have to start looking for some reloading supplies just to see how the old war horse shoots.

Congrats, nice find. The ivory is beautiful. However, does not appear original to gun as it is too new.

Nice! Glad you got it. I might have a few rounds of 38-40 about and that gun should be safe with factory smokeless loads. I need to send your molds back, anyway, as I've decided they'll be too heavy for my Bowen. Want me to include a bit of ammo with them if I can find it?

Robb, I can loan you dies and give you a handful of new brass if you want to give it a try. Tim

The ivories may look too new in the picture but in real life they are quite yellow with crazing and the dark lines like many old sets of ivories. Stephen, if you could toss some 38-40 rounds in with the molds that would be great. If I like how it shoots then I may take Tim up on borrowing some dies and order some brass and bullets to load some stuff up. Thanks guys, I appreciate the offers from each of you.

You got it. Might be a week or two before they are headed your way. Our summer camp is in three weeks and I am slammed with preparations!

Great grips, great character, and great caliber. I'd really like to see the 38-40 make a mild comeback. -Lee www.singleactions.com"Building carpal tunnel one round at a time"

Nice gun. If the serial # is more than 192,000 & the gun made after 1900. I think that's when Colt warranted their guns for smokeless powder. Thanks for sharing. Frank
