So I have an older John Linebaugh built gun, #26, originally built for a fella up in Eagle River, Alaska per John. It's actually on a trip back to Wyoming to have the frame markings fixed to show the correct caliber--it was made prior to John fixing the calibers on the frame--and new pair of shoes.
Anyway, the stainless #26 sister to this gun is presently on gun broker. Having matching serial numbers between the two 475's seems like a cool idea to me, but got me thinking in customs if it's all that neat at all. I look over every short tubed Ruger flat top and old model 45 I come across trying to match up serial numbers with guns I have, but never really thought about it much in customs since some makers allow you to order numbers you want and such--maybe in part led to my foolish parting of ways with low two-digit and single-digit TLA's years ago.
But now all the sudden I have a hankering for a sister set of 475's--maybe its just an excuse talking myself into a gun I already have a duplicate of--which I could part with later I guess.
So, in my normally long-winded fashion, how cool is it in customs like Linebaugh to match up serials: not at all, ho humm, neat but no biggie, eye catching, head turning, or bees knees?
Thanks fellers.
Will.

If you are a numbers guy, it is neat. If you aren't, it isn't. All boils down to that. I've had various consecutively numbered guns over the years and then started chasing the same number for a while. Finally realized I'm not a numbers guy and probably never will be.

I'm not a numbers guy either..Unless I had the revolvers built with a personalized build number as a set and then only maybe.

I think If you like them consecutive it's a good thing. It's whatever suits you. They are your guns, they should please you! Go for it. Frank

What would Axe do...? Consecutive numbers or not, I think two Linebaugh customs would be cool if money is not an issue. BTW, I searched GB and could not find a Linebaugh listed - care to share the link if you decide not to go for it?

Don't know about matching. Do know that consecutive numbers is a sick sick affliction.. I've got a couple of consecutive serial number pairs I picked up just to make a consecutive serial number somethings.. I've been holding these things for years. Just decided upon a plan. Hard to make a consecutive serial number anything if you don't have the raw material in hand... Now days you better have the serial numbered part and any special part you might need too.. Grip frames, hammers. triggers...

Personally I could care less. Can't even remember the last time I looked at a serial number on one of my weapons.

I like that, regardless of number. The one thing I notice is my #34, which is identical to your #23, is the black front blade. The one listed on GB has a stainless front blade. I'm like Ax in that I do like consecutive serials, even made a list of flat tops and OM 45's so I can quickly reference to see if anything matches. Would love to get a run of three. Don't care enough about new guns--you can always get consecutives.
I love Linebaugh guns and try to find a way to talk myself into every reasonably priced one I run across. The number thing helped talk me into this one, but must admit as the price goes up, my interst dwindles. Kelle at Belt Mtn. sold me his banded barrel stainless 475 at a very reasonable price a few years ago and have found others at a deal--once the price hits what it will cost to have Linebaugh build me one, my patience kicks in.
Wow, now that I think about it, I need a stainless banded barrel 500L.

I cracked a grip panel on my #34, somewhen the new shoes arrive back from SK I will have to post a picture. He is also making asset for a blued 500L that Snd pointed in my direction.

My 475 could use some better fitting shoes, for most guns I would send it off to Gary but for this gun Dustin may get the nod. P.S. Someone wants one now, the price is getting up there. www.gunbroker.com/Auction/ViewItem.aspx?Item=290286013
