I recently happened upon a theft recovery Colt NF 22 in somewhat abused shape. Front sight is totally missing, looks like it previously had a ramp base. It has the adjustable rear sight. I am going to shorten it from 6" to 4 5/8" and was wondering if anyone could tell me approximately what height front sight I will need? Anyone got one they could measure? Any good suggestions on where to get one?
I will also be looking for some replacement grips.
Thanks ward

I have one of the 4.4 inch NF .22's, G series. If the front site was sitting on the bench it would be .430 tall to the top from the bench, a bit less in the center of the radius. It is a one piece blade/ramp.

I've owned both the 4-3/4" & the 6" and never noticed if the height was different. Gun Parts (Numrich) doesn't seem to carry them, but Bob's Gun Shop might have one in stock (he might also have the grips): www.coltparts.com/pt_newfrontier22.htmlGun Parts shows the grips in stock: www.coltparts.com/pt_newfrontier22.html

No luck with Bob's on the ramp sight. But thanks for the info.
Suppose the Ruger SSS front sight would work? I'll have to check that out.

Unless there is a large difference in bbl diameters, requiring re-contouring the underside of the ramp, the Ruger site should work. Pretty easy installation, as it only requires one screw to hold it in place. I do know the Ruger ramp sight can be had in several different heights. I put up with my 1973 6.5" SS shooting high (for me) for 15 years until I contacted Ruger back in the 1980s and they sent me a higher front sight (I think for the 4-5/8"). It then sighted in perfectly for me!
